Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of PlayStation 3 120GB System

Customer Review: From the 360 to PS3
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had a 360 for over 2 years and am currently on on my 3rd. The first two had to be replaced, for free, after the RRoD. The DVD player on my latest 360 died and I didn't want to pay to have it repaired so I did it myself. And yes, I modded it. It only cost $50 to replace the DVD player and everything was just dandy. Borderlands came out and I wanted to play the game online with some work friends, so I coughed up the money for XBox live. Almost a week to the day of buying XBL my console got banned from XBL for being modded. Of course we were offered no refund for XBL. Needless to say I was a bit ticked off. I wouldn't have had to mod my 360 if they'd just build a solid device, but I was 0 for 3 on 360 consoles and just didn't want to spend the time and money shipping the thing out for repairs for the third time in less than 3 years. So I retired the 360 to the confines of storage and bought a PS3.

I got the Slim and so far so good. The console is much quieter than the 360 and the foot print is a lot smaller than the 360. I traded in all my 360 games and stocked up on my staples, Bioshock, Assians Creed, Dragon Age etc.

For me personally I find the failure rate of the 360s to be unacceptable. Most of the people I work with have both a 360 and PS3 and most of them are on their second or third 360, it's just a piece of junk in my opinion. So moving up to a PS3 buys me a bit more security in the fact that this device will perform and not die every year as the 360s do.

Customer Review: review from a 60GB Phat owner who bought the 120GB Slim
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought the Playstation 3 60GB the day it came out in November 2006. I've been a happy owner of this system since.
When I first read/learned about the new PS3 Slim, I didn't pay much attention to this system since I already owned a Playstation 3.
Also I thought it looked a little ugly from looking at the pictures.
But 2 weeks ago, I was able to get a great deal on the Slim so I decided to give it a try.

Why?

1. I never played a PS2 game on my 60GB Phat
2. My 60GB Phat gets a little noisy when heating up (this is normal)and emist a lot of heat.
3. I can sell my used 60GB for the same price as the new Slim.

After receiving the Slim a few days ago and using it during the weekend, here are my impressions:

- it look way better than in the pictures.
- this thing is DEAD SILENT (compared to my 60GB). Even after playing games for few hours, I still can't hear the fans from my couch around 12ft away(with volume on mute)
- DS3 controller that came with the system is lighter than my older DS3 controller.

So in conclusion, I'm VERY happy with this system so far and I 100% recommend it to anyone who want a next gen console. For $299 you are getting one heck of a deal.
Plus, with a tons of amazing games already released and coming up right around the corner (Uncharted 2 being the next one), there are no reasons not to buy this PS3.

Customer Review: Not a FANBOY
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought my first PS3 3 years ago. A 60GB model. I never had it freeze on me once. I always kept it in a well ventilated area, as I do with all of my electronics. I take the best care with all of my components and thats why they last so long. I just recently sold it online in the market place for 475.00. I felt like i undersold it but it didn't even have a single surface scratch on it after 3+ years. Even though I bought it for 600 back in the day, I feel a rental charge of 125 for the past 3 years was a good deal considering all of the use I got out of it. Now I am a proud owner of a Slim model and can care less about what I gave up to make some money off my old model. Plus its a lot quieter and while I haven't had it long enough to see yet, it will supposedly take up less electricity. PS3s really do everything and are the best console on the market right now in terms of reliability and are continuing to improve their game library with award winning titles exclusively on the system such as Little Big Planet, Uncharted 1&2, Killzone, Resistance 1&2, and Metal Gear Solid 4. Then there are the 2 recent releases of God of War 3 and Heavy Rain, both critically acclaimed across the board, and which are surely going to rake in the sales and awards. These games are reasons enough as to why you should buy a PS3. And to think that the PS3 will still be around for about 7-10 more years. Not a penny will be wasted when you purchase this system

Customer Review: Excellent BlueRay; the Game Controller is a Full Function Remote
Summary: 5 Stars

I just got my PS3 Slim today and was surprised while playing around with the remote with the DVD in that it quickly brings up a menu if you press the Green Triangle (X is for select) and that you can toggle through:

Pop-Up Menu
Top Menu
Return
Go To
Angle Options
Audio Options
Subtitle Options
Subtitle Style Options
Volume Control
AV Settings
Time Options
Display

AND

Previous, Next [Chapter], Fast Reverse, Fast Forward, Play/Start, Pause, Stop, Instant Replay, Instant Advance, Slow (Back), Slow (Forward), Frame Reverse and Frame Advance.

You can enter the command (even the freeze frame) and then hit the Green Triangle button again to make the menu disappear. The Red Circle gives you the option to quit playback, and the Pink Square produces the Disc Menu/Set Up/Scene Locator/Special Features option.

R1 (upper right button) and L1 go to next scene or last scene. R2 and L2 toggle between different fast forward/reverse speeds.

That's not everything, but it's enough. I was going to buy the remote (I have a Bravia, but my Sony remote model does not detect a sync'd device even though I'm connected to the tv by HDMI).

So aside from the fantastic picture during DVD playback, I don't see a reason now to buy the remote unless I want another one lying around.

Customer Review: PS3 Slim + Netflix = Freedom from Cable TV...
Summary: 5 Stars

After much research, I purchased two PS3 Slim's for my HDTV's because they come with built-in Wi-Fi and a great Blu-Ray player, in addition to being an awesome gaming system. Plus, the HDMI connections are easy and excellent quality. I'm 62, and was looking for a box that would let me use the wide selection of Netflix instant download movies and programs. I'm happy to report that the picture and sound quality of Netflix downloads is very good on the PS3. Much faster and better than I expected. Not hi-def, but better than regular TV. And I have the Blu-Ray to watch movies by mail from Netflix at the highest quality. Blu-Ray really is an awesome experience if you have a big HDTV and a surround sound system. I use the Sony CT-500 sound bar and subwoofer that has amazing sound quality and separation.

Sony markets the PS3 as an "entertainment system" and I agree that it serves this function very well for me. I returned my hi-def cable boxes to Cox and am now saving $65 per month that was being wasted on crummy channels with endless commercials that I never watched. Now I can get quality programming that I choose myself instantly on demand from Netflix without any commercials. I can play, pause, and re-play a program as much as I like, just like playing a DVD. Sony PS3 plus Netflix really is wonderful and cost-effective solution for users like me...

Highly recommended!
