Customer Review: Wonderful Little Mp3
Summary: 5 Stars

I was looking for a little mp3 player for an overseas trip; so long battery life, enough memory space to keep me entertained and nice video capability were what I was looking for.
This little guy had all that and more. It was in the running with Zune, iPod and the Walkman with an FM radio tuner. What sold me was battery life, screen size and that I never really listen to the radio. Since not many seem to have reviewed the video/picture viewer capabilities I will. The picture for video is gorgeous for such a small screen, colors pop and the extra .5 really is nice. Too, black levels look really good. It depends on where your video came from, but most uploaded from YouTube have pure black bars where needed. Viewing angle is a little narrow, but with such a small screen, and as I am not sharing...it's fine. Picture viewer is a nice feature that I didn't think I'd use, but is handy. As a photographer it is fun to have a "small" sample of work along. The colors/detail are really nice for so small a viewing screen. And I just have to convert to 320x240/jpeg in PhotoShop! Music sounds fantastic, as other reviews have said. And the ear buds are pretty nice.
Battery life has been good, but I have not yet tested the full life of music only v. video only.
Videos will need to be converted to play. I used ivcsoft found here: [...]
Video's need to be in "iPod/iPhone (320 x 240)(.mp4)" to play. But with this software it is very easy to convert, and then watch.
And 4GB is plenty of room for me; I have between 366-370 songs(this includes 2, 2.5 hour audio books.). With 70 videos(at about 9 minutes a piece) and about 70 images on this thing!

I would recommend this player.

Customer Review: Walkman Player For Everyone
Summary: 5 Stars

Even though I am older in years my spirit is young so I wanted an MP3 player that was easy to use and understand and I also wanted a little bit larger screen so I could see some of the Pod Casts I was looking forward to enjoying. This fits the bill. I have had no problems downloading my music (Rock if you need to know)and the Pod Casts I wanted to see. Best purchase I could have made.

Customer Review: UPDATED: 4.5 months and battery is shot (2 Stars)
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased the NWZ-A728 thinking that I was getting an MP3 / video player. I already owned a Sansa 4GB mp3 player that I was happy with (overall) but it lacked any practical video playback features. The NWZ-A728 is slim, lightweight and sturdy. Its menu system is user-friendly and its sound quality is superb.

Unfortunately, the NWZ-A728 is to video players what a McDonalds hamburger is to steak: technically it's beef but its definitely not a t-bone. It doesn't support Amazon Unbox movies and you need to convert video files to MP4 format. After several attempts with converter software downloaded from the internet (Sony support won't help you out in this regard) I finally purchased the Sony Media Manager upgrade which lets you convert and transfer video files to the player with relative ease (although the conversion process can take some time).

Now that I've got software to transfer video, the battery has gone haywire. The player now needs to be charged every day (yep, every day) no matter how long you actually use the player. If I use it for a 1/2 hour workout today (mp3 playback only), it will be dead by morning if its not charged. Manually powering down the player doesn't seem to work. It's as if the player never shuts off. Obviously, a player that needs a daily charge isn't going to work very well if you're traveling.

The Sony limited warranty covers parts for 1 year but only covers labor for 90 days. A call to Sony reveals a flat $77 service charge to return the player for battery replacement - nearly 1/2 of the cost of the player itself!! A second call to Sony's parts department and I was quoted a $47.38 price tag for a replacement battery but it's a 2-3 week back order.

I love this player but I'm soured on the battery and Sony support.

Customer Review: unreliable
Summary: 1 Stars

No problems with player while it worked. Screen went dead after 4 months. Sony labor warranty is abysmal - 90 days only. Repair charges exceed the cost of the player. So was the noise canceling worth the money - for 4 months only? I'd say - no...
