This is a great medium long range lens for your Sony Alpha 100 DSLR camera. The lens handles great and is easy to use.
The autofocus works quite well and aquires the focus pretty fast.
I was impressed with its zoom ability from the long range. With the anti-shake features of the camera I managed to take some outstandin long range shots without the use of tripod. Although I would strongly recommend one if you intend on doing long shots during limited lighting conditions.
The price of this lens is a little higher than I would like to pay. If you are a novice or amatuer photographer, you might be better off getting a lens that offers more abilities than this long range medium lens.
Either way you will find that this lens does has a home for you.
Customer Review: great lens, but slow AF in low light

This is only telephoto lens I have, so I can't compare it to anything. The thing I noticed is that autofocus in low light is very slow (1-2 seconds, sometimes even more), and sometimes it doesn't even manage to get a focus. The good thing is that is has pretty large manual focusing ring, which is easy to use, much better (wider and much more to rotate) than on standard 18-70 that came with Sony camera kit.
In good lighting conditions it focuses almost as fast as 18-70.

I bought this together with the Sony Alpha (very good deal from Amazon). The lens is a great complement to the kit lens or the identical but older KM 18-70. Images are very sharp and the lens is built very well. Great for wildlife imaging. The other reviewers are right; the AF isn't too good at the long end of this lens but overall a great camera.
The end of the lens DOES ROTATE while zooming. It may not be good for some filters.

This is my first SLR camera. I'm pleased I choose the Sony A100 Digital SLR Camera. I purchased the Sony 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 Compace Super Telephoto Zoom Lens for it. I've taken wild life, landscapes, luna, and celestial pictures. I have been amazed are the sharpness of the photos. I would recommend it to a friend.
