Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony 900 MHz BabyCall Nursery Monitor with Receivers

Customer Review: Solid monitor with terrific volume and sound quality....couple of lacking features would make this a perfect solution.
Summary: 4 Stars

We purchased this for our nursery after a failed first attempt at a monitor that was not nearly loud enough for my wife and I.

The volume on this unit is simply astounding. Granted, we live in a one floor, 2 bedroom apartment and even with the monitor all the way across the house from the speaker units, we have to have the volume turned to about 25% in order to avoid feedback. This is one of those good problems to have, since we plan to move into a bigger place and this unit will grow with us.

The design is clean and has a soft, rounded look to it which is not cloying but very much suits a baby nursery. Although slightly bulky, the units are lightweight.

Getting two speaker units is a real plus.
Rechargeable batteries on the speaker units is a benefit.

Missing features:

-Temperature alert.
-Two way talk feature.
-Monitor is AC powered only. Ability to use rechargeable or standard batteries for ease of movement would have been nice.

All in all we are very happy with this product.

Customer Review: Just One "Deficiency"
Summary: 4 Stars

I am a parent of two toddlers and needed to replace an exceptionally good 900 MHz Fisher Price monitor (which has been discontinued) that performed wonderfully for nearly five years until it was dropped one too many times.

The Sony BabyCall does a outstanding job picking up the children's voices and movements while minimizing (likely by design) many background noises. This is probably a plus when monitoring an infant, but for keeping tabs on two active toddlers some background noises (i.e. a jiggling door knob) can be rather helpful. These other noises can still be heard, just not as prominently. This is the only "deficiency" that I have observed. I have had no range or static issues with this unit whatsoever.
Overall, the Sony BabyCall monitor is quite good and, considering that it comes with two receivers, it's an excellent value.

**As a sidenote, a week before purchasing the Sony, I ordered and returned the Graco Ultra Clear II 49mhz Baby Monitor--don't waste your time or money on that one, the sensitivity was horribly deficient.

Customer Review: Good not Great
Summary: 4 Stars

It has button that is off - voice activated - on. On is continuous and voice activated is only when your baby is making noise. Sometimes it picks up on the space heater in our baby's room and that will come through when the voice activated is on. It will interfer with other signals - if my cell phone is close it will make awful sound. We haven't had troubles with microwave interfering like other reviewer said. I would say keep other items that emit signal about 4 feet away and it shouldn't interfere.

We have great range at all levels of our house. Works from basement to 2nd floor without range issues. It will beep at you if it can't pick up on monitor. Slide buttons on bottom let you choose different channels. I love the battery and plug in options of this unit. The stationary unit with baby isn't battery operated which is a huge downside - you must keep monitor away from crib at least 3 feet for this reason. The cord can be a choking hazard (I know one more thing to worry about).

Customer Review: Not bad, not perfect
Summary: 4 Stars

We replaced our first monitor with this one due to a severe lack of range in our old one. This one does better for range but still isn't quite what I was hoping for.

The Voice Activated feature works pretty well and we use it almost exclusively.

My biggest complaint is that when it's next to the bed and one of us gets up in the night and walks in between it (the receiver) and the transmitter, it causes interference and the receiver gives us plenty of beeping and flashing. Extremely annoying and not great for the (formerly) still-sleeping person.

But it seems sturdy (has survived a number of baby-induced falls), the battery life is good enough when not plugged in, and the channel selector is well designed.

At a time when you can get a cheap walkie talkie that can transmit for miles I don't understand why it's so hard to have a baby monitor transmit 50 feet, but this one's good enough for us to keep.

Customer Review: Sony 900 MHz BabyCall monitor work great
Summary: 4 Stars

The Sony BabyCall monitor is a solid performer. We have used one for almost 3 years with our first child and the battery still continues to hold a charge. We have a 2 story home with the children's rooms upstairs. There is occasional interference, but it is easily remedied by moving the monitor slightly. With the 27 channels to choose from, there will be one that will work well in the home. The advantages of the rechargeable battery and good performance led us to purchase yet another monitor for our second child. The two receivers are nice to have, as we can leave one upstairs and the other downstairs for the newborn. I would recommend anyone to buy.
