Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony BDP-S300 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

Customer Review: This is the best blu-ray player
Summary: 5 Stars

Just got it today and let me tell you that I am impressed. Hooked it up to my recently purchased Sony Bravia KDL52XBR3 LCD TV and it is just superb. The player is lighting fast with bootup time. I think it is as fast as the PS3 loading BD movies (around 10 to 15 seconds). The machine is very solid. It has an expensive look and feel to the whole unit.

I watched Curse of The Golden Flower Blu-ray and a few others and let me tell you that the pictures and colors were stunning. Black is deep black, colors are vibrant. I mean Pioneer Elite deep black. The sounds are just wonderful.

The S300 is super quiet. You cannot hear the fan unless you put your ear on it. The unit runs super cool, even after watching 2 BD movies. When I put my hand infront of the fan and all I felt was cool air (unlike the PS3).

I believe Sony is going to make a fortune with this BD player. It is simply the best. Let me tell you that, place your order NOW. It is a great price and with Amazon, you cannot loose. Can I make it any clearer that this is the BEST BD player in the world?

I would rate it 100 stars if I could.

Customer Review: Sony BDP-S350

As a HD-DVD (HD-A1) Owner, I was looking to get into Blu-ray as inexpensively as possible. I found a scratch and dent player on Amazon, and after reading some reviews, went a bought it (sub $200 just like I did 2 years ago with the A1)... Definitely a good deal! I bought this player for the same reason that I bought the A1; up conversion. Yeah, Blu-ray looks stellar, but the proof is how well it up converts DVDs. In comparison of the 2 players, there are somethings that the 350 seems to deal with better and some things the A1 does better. The images tend to look a little softer on lower bit rate DVDs, but there is less pixalation (or glitter) than the sharper A1 - higher bit rate dvds however (Stargate Atlantis, and Superbit disks look stellar!). However, both are very watchable with a 10 foot diag picture. However, it does not take 2 minutes to boot like the A1 (first gen) does, and the only disks that seem to take a while to load are BD-Live or Java heavy disks. Still not as bad as the first gen HD-A1. [...]Network connection was flawless, and updates were straight forward...Good player for the money...

Customer Review: Best Blu-ray player for the buck.

Besides the PS3, this is the best value for your dollar. Before the release of this new Sony model, Samsung's BD-P1200 was the best standalone player in terms of playback and features. It still remains one of the best, but Sony's BDP-s300 is a great deal. Unlike their previous model, it plays more formats like DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD-R/RW and AVCHD, which is a HD format for video cameras.

Every Blu-ray player always had the same great quality of picture when it came to playing Blu-ray movies, and this one is no different. With this model, the load times are a lot faster. The one thing that is bad about this player is that it lacks an Ethernet port for easy firmware updates. But it is not a big deal since you can easily request firmware updates from Sony or simply download firmware updates onto a DVD/CD from Sony.com.

If you are looking for a well-priced Blu-ray player, and turned off by using a videogame console as a disc player, the Sony BDP-s300 is the way to go.

Customer Review: Mine works just fine!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a 300 and it DOES NOT take 5-10 minutes to load a movie, It is 58 seconds to to power on and get to the do not copy warning. I think that is pretty darn quick. The movie started playing at 1:45 seconds.

I just load my 2nd update to 4.2..... STILL no picture in picture feature, so I can't use the special features on Transformers and Heroes S2 Blu-ray. So I am a little bummed about that, but, I got my player on clearance for $197.00

I am thinking about getting a PS3, BUT, I like a time display, PS3 doesn't have that, no digital coax, only optical out, I have optical on my receiver, just prefer digital coax.
No remote, the remote with the 300 is SWEET. I know you can get a Blu-ray remote for $25, just not as nice.

So the 300, no BD-live and and no pip special features use.

So far he 2 firmware upgrades I did, were very easy to do and have vastly improved the load time of BR discs.

It is a HUGE brick, but not a big deal to me.

The Sony BDP-S300 is a very nice looking Blue Ray/DVD player. I've had mine for a few days now and have watch enough movies on it to know I got a player that performs. It's remote is very functional and easy to understand and use in the dark as well.

DVDs step up nicely to 1080p, which is a relief!

My BDP-S300 player did not require a firmware upgrade. It had version 3.8 loaded already.

Blue Ray load time isn't long at all. I bought "I am Legend" with Will Smith in Blue Ray format and was blown away by the clarity Blue Ray offers. My monitor is a 46" Samsung Series 5 and the Sony connects to it via a 4ft 1000HD Monster brand HDMI cable for 1080p.

Be advised; not all cables are the same quality. You'll need a high quality cable for the best results. Be sure and get one that handles both audio and video at 10.2Gbps ! A 1000HD!!!
