Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony BDP-S300 1080p Blu-ray Disc PlayerCustomer Review: Great Player, Great Price Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great product. Yes, the main complaint is long wait times but this can partially be solved with the firmware updates available online. After the update, I only had to wait for about two minutes until the movie was loaded & ready to go. It really isn't as bad as you'd think. The build of the player is also top notch. This player reminds me of the early Sony DVD players that were very well built. The picture quality is superb considering I'm only displaying it on a 720p/1080i television. I am not able to fully tap Blu Ray's visual capabilities but what I do get is absolutely amazing. You do not need to spend upwards of $1000 for a good Blu Ray player, this one is a great choice for the price.
Customer Review: Wow! Summary: 5 Stars
This is one fantastic player. I have a 5-year old rear projection TV and I hooked the player to the TV using RCA jacks. (Not the best configuration!) When I play normal DVDs on this player, the quality of the image dramatically improves when compared to my high quality progressive scan DVD players. But when I play a bluray disc, the image is very near high definition quality. I didn't think my old projection TV was capable of this quality. The sound quality out of this bluray player is magic. I have a 5-speaker home theater sound system that predates the TV. When I play blurays, the sound quality is like being in a movie theater. It really brings out the base.
Customer Review: Firmware updates make this one a winner Summary: 5 Stars
This is my second Blu-ray player. After the installing the current 3.8 firmware update, this Sony BDP-S300 is on par with my Panasonic BD30K. From power-up to the copyright warning is 60 seconds. Not bad. People that complain about long load times don't understand the nature of HD players. They are computers. They take time to start. The picture quality is fantastic. The player feels like a quality unit too. Kinda heavy for the times. For the money it's hard to beat. So what if it doesn't have the extra features the newer more expensive players do. I can have two of these for the price of one newer advanced unit.
Customer Review: Great machine Summary: 5 Stars
This is my first Blu-ray and I couldn't be happier I have only 1080i right now but the 1080p LCD will be coming soon.Wow the blu-ray disc really looks great on 1080i I can't even imagine what it will look like on 1080p.The upconverting is great with my older dvd's.Blu-ray sound is just amazing running through my audio system with coaxal digital cable. So yeh I wated to see who would win the dvd format war and its clear blu-ray has done so and I also wated for second generation blu-ray players,I'm sure glad I did,oh yeh this player runs as quite as any stantard player I've had in the past.
Customer Review: Excellent Blu-Ray Player Summary: 5 Stars
Not sure what the fuss is about, but this player works great. I had a movie up and playing in 5 min, and that's with setting up my audio and video for my TV & receiver. One of the first things you unpack is a BLUE sheet of paper that says "Powering up for the first time may take 90 seconds." I will say that it does take about a min when you first turn on the movie for it to be ready to accept or play your disc, but what's one minute? It played all of my discs without problem (Terminator 1&2, Tears of the Sun, Shooter, etc).
Very very happy with this player.
