Bought this player along with SONY 52'XBR-6. Great combination and great price. Enjoyed the combo for exactly 32days... and this player showed "SYS ERR" on the display. Nothing would work on the player or remote. Referred the instruction manual - which suggested to contact the Sony authorised service center or dealer for that error message.
Called Amazon customer service three times and 'third time lucky' the agent said that she would do an exception to their 30-day return window and ship a new player.
New player arrived in 2days and we're enjoying this awesome player again.
PS: one of our friend's DVD we watched last on the faulty player is still stuck inside when I shipped it back to Amazon.

Pros: Awesome picture and easy to use and set up! Traded in my Samsung first generation BDP 1000 for this very sleek small player that looks like a PS3 menu and I added a wireless N adaptor to it to make the BD live work and updates etc. Top of the line!
Cons: Sound quality is not what its all cracked up to be, but still good. Why they didnt add WIFI to this internally is beyond me since PS3 has it. Thats my only complaint

I gave the Sony BDP-S550 1080p Blu-ray player as a Christmas gift to my husband, he loved it. I wanted something that was the newest to the market, user friendly (we are in the over 50 age group) and offer all the quality functions 1080p and updateable thru the internet. The graphics and quality of the picture "out of this world". My money was well spent. I had priced this same model at a leading retailer for a considerable higher price. Amazon.com offered the best price and with free shipping I was sold.

This was purchased to replace a BDP-S300 in our living room. Much faster startup, and supports the new HDMI 1.3 spec allowing our tv to control the player. Amazon has it for a great price, and overall a significantly better player than the first gen devices (BDP-S300 and BDP-S500). The BD-Live feature is a bonus but not necessary, the internet firmware upgrades makes it much easier than burning a disc everytime a new update comes out. The only complaint is the unit seems to be built much cheaper than the older players, smaller, more flimsy compared with the older Sony units. This seems to be a trend even with Samsung and Sharp.Customer Review: great picture -highly recommended

Bought this Sony BDP-S550 Blu-ray player about 6 weeks ago. My first Blu-ray player and so far no problems at all. Video and audio quality appears as good as all the positive reviews here state.
Slightly slow on the load and unload of a DVD, but this is common to all blu-ray players.
Plays standard DVD's just fine, but of course blu-ray quality excellent.
Went for this model so that it doesn't become old technology too soon.
Hooked up to my 52" 1080p SONY Bravia in just a few minutes. Used the Vector HDMI cables from AMAZON.
