Customer Review: Terrific LCD HDTV!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this TV last month for my bedroom and I am so pleased with it! The price in Amazon is unbeatable. The TV is so clear and the picture quality is super! I hooked up my TV with an upconverting DVD player (PHILIPS DVP5982 - MULTI REGION CODEFREE DVD PLAYER WITH HDMI 1080p AND USB) via HDMI cable. The picture quality is so awesome. Even in playing in DVD-R, the picture coming out at 1080p upconverted is very very good.

The TV has very simple menu which I like. It does not take you long to figure out what to do and what to adjust in the menu. The design is very handsome. I ordered from Amazon and within 3 to 4 days the shipper contacted me for delivery. They brought it to my place, unboxed the TV, and put on the table for me to test. I couldn't believe how convenience and quickly it was. The experience was painless and hassle free relatively to if you buy the TV from the store, bring it home, unbox and do the whole thing yourself.

Now for console game, I hooked up both of my Xbox 360 and PS3 to the TV and check them out. Oh my god! There is no further comment on picture quality with the PS3 on 1080p output. Wait until you also see the Planet Earth on Blue Ray outputed at 1080p! Your jaw will drop! My Xbox 360 is the older version so it only outputs at 720p max resolution. Even at 720p resolution, I really enjoy the picture quality on this TV and can't tell much of the difference between the 720p versus the 1080p output from the games.

Overall, I am very happy with this TV and would strongly recommend it to everyone. 40" LCD 1080p Sony at $1500 (price at this time when I am writing this comment) is again unbeatable. You can't find this kind of deal at Best-Buy, Circuit City, or Sear!

If you're thinking about buying this TV, don't think any further. Just get it!

Customer Review: I Love My TV!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I think my title sums it all up! I'm not going to bore you with the geeky techno garble about this TV, too many people already have. My review is about the customer service. I was really scared to plunk down my hard earned money to buy a TV from warehouse deals as an open box unit. However, I wanted the most TV my money could buy and after touring the stores locally I liked the Sony's better and setteled on this one. Even with all the good ratings I was still very skeptical and scared to death the whole time until I got it. I had purchased a refurbished DVD Player from refurb depot (don't shop there) that was DOA and didn't want the same thing happening again for such a large item, because it would be such a hassle to ship it back. Well my fears were unfounded. My tv turned out to be a great tv and a great deal too!!!I ordered my tv in the wee hours of Friday morning on Nov 30th; my tv was at my door (Atlanta) noon time the following Thursday! The description was correct the box had been opened before but the tv was about as new looking as it could get! The delivery team (Eagle) had my phone number from Amazon and called and left a message the prior evening that my tv had arrived and could the delivered between 11 nad 1 the next day and they did so. I had to go to work so I did not let them set it up but I inspected it for damage and found none. It plays beautifully and it looks amazing on my tv stand. This had been a great shopping experience, and I don't always get this type of good service so I felt I had to commend Amazon. Oh yeah the price that night was unbelievable too...paid $839.99 for this 40" Sony tv $881.98 shipped! The closest price locally was $1399.00 on sale! I feel so special!

Customer Review: TV Great. Amazon best price!
Summary: 5 Stars

The picture is amazing and the sound is quite good. In terms of making the purchase, I went back and forth between buying from Best Buy or Amazon only because I was hesitant if something was wrong, it would be a pain to have to return it to Amazon. I made about 3 trips to Best Buy to look at the TV and talk with salespeople, with all my papers (Amazon info/reviews, Consumer Reports, etc) and I asked them why I should buy from them and pay about $500 more. Best Buy was able to give me a price which was pretty close to Amazon's price, but then once you add the tax, you're still looking at a couple of hundred more. Also, Best Buy tries to sell you the HDMI cables, DVD, etc. all of which Amazon has (the exact same thing!) for between 30-50% less! We decided to go with Amazon because even if there was something wrong with the TV (a few of the reviewers complained about a "clouding" problem - we have not noticed this at all - however, it did give us some reason for concern) the money we'd be saving would certainly more than cover the cost of returning it. Re the TV though - so far... so good! EGL service was prompt and dealing with Amazon is so much easier than dealing with the retailers and all their hype. We've had several SONY TVs in the past and certainly hope that this one lasts because no matter where you wind up buying it, $2,000 is a lot for a TV. I'll keep my fingers crossed! And if you are not a tech person, I would also mention the nececssity of having someone who can figure out where all those cables plug into. It's not like the old TVs - plug in and go! In terms of researching products, I do find the Amazon customer reviews really helpful - real feedback, from real people. Keep 'em coming!

Customer Review: Beauty, high end quality, & excellect price make this a WINNER!
Summary: 5 Stars

Having been in the TV industry for over 20 years I became jaded about Sony televisions. For nearly 15 years I've avoided Sony televisions because of price, weight, and lack of their "old school" quality. I recently caved in and got this model since it runs with the Bravia engine without the Bravia price (and less 1 HDMI input - I can live with 2) and has a plethora of different inputs including one for the PC that will fit any need. For this price you will not be disappointed. The TV is relatively light, picture is great, color and black levels are excellent. I can't even tell where the black from the screen ends and the black from the DVD begins! I use this exclusively with DVDs and PCs. I don't use this monitor for over the air, cable, or satellite, television at all. Using this set in conjunction with an up converting DVD player with HDMI output you will be amazed at the quality even playing back ripped, compressed DVDs. The ability to change screen size is a great feature for the compressed movies. Normally I steer clear of Sony products because of their "Apple like" proprietary accessories. This one was worth caving in for, not only for the price, but also for picture quality, ease of use, and easy to follow screen menus. I would say that the only drawback that I can see is the fairly cheap remote, but considering all other factors that is a very trivial issue. The fact that this actually plays back in true 1080p is a bonus considering nearly all other 1080p sets only do 1080i. It was sure nice getting this for $1000.00 less than the same size Bravia that only has minimal improvement over this. Looks like Sony has finally won me back and it's about time.

Customer Review: Very impressed.

I would like to mention some of the features that really impressed me. If you've viewed a letterboxed movie (either broadcast on tv or a non-enhanced for 16:9/non-anamorphic dvd) on a widescreen tv, you'll noticed the "double letterboxing" that happens. You get the top and bottom black bars of the letterbox, plus the side black bars of the widescreen tv. So you basically have a tiny version of the movie in the center of your screen. Well very few TVs can do anything about it when you're hooked up to through the HDMI or Component imputs. This Sony however allows you to choose from all of the "wide" modes. You can simply zoom in so the movie fills the screen, with normal letterboxing on the top and bottom (if the movie's ratio is larger than 16:9).

Now if you're watching the letterboxed movie with subtitles & zoom in... some of your subtitles may get cut off. Well this Sony allows you adjust the vertical alignment of the screen. Just notch the screen up +3 and you get the full movie plus the subtitles! No waste of your precious widescreen!

The Sony processors do a great job of smoothing out the picture.

You can save which mode you prefer for each input and even each wide mode. For instance, when I watch standard tv, it automatically switches to "wide zoom" mode which zooms and stretches a little, filling the screen. For the above mentioned "letterbox" mode, when I select normal Zoom, it automatically sets the screen to the +3 alignment.

Other features include being able to label your inputs, and skip any unused inputs. A nice touch!

Aside from the tiny bit of lag, I'd say this TV is nearly perfect!
