Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony Bravia V-Series KDL-40V2500 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTVCustomer Review: You Won't Be Disappointed! Summary: 5 Stars
I did some serious homework before plunging into the Hi-Def TV world. I looked at this TV in store displays and shopped multiple sites online as well. This TV easily stands up to Plasma picture quality and, in my opinion, exceeds it. It really stood out in the store when I asked the salesperson to switch the hi-def DVD demo they were playing over to a standard (analog) signal (the entire store had to be switched). That's where this TV stood above the rest. This TV did a better job than other brand LCD's and better than the Plasmas at displaying standard tv signals. It was less grainy and less pixelated than the other units.
Once installed in my living room, I compared analog basic cable channels to standard digital and hi-def equivalents available from my cable company (1080i). I cannot wait to hook up a true 1080p signal from a hi-def DVD system.
The televisions color quality, picture clarity and contrast levels are impressive. I have NOT seen any evidence of the much talked about "clouding" or "ghosting" issues with my TV after a full week's heavy use over the holiday weekend. This TV was manufactured in November 2006, which is supposedly during the time the cloudy pictures emerged from the factory. I can see no evidence of that no matter how I change my display and backlight settings.
The sound quality is very good and the remote is clean, uncluttered and easy to use. It doesn't have 100 buttons on it that you'll never use. All advanced settings are a single "menu" button press away. As the title says, I am very happy with this television and I believe you will be too. You won't be disappointed!
Customer Review: Awesome LCD HDTV! Summary: 5 Stars
Sony does it again...was there ever any doubt? After extensive reseach into plasma vs. LCD TVs, my wife and I decided to get this for ourselves for our anniversary. The V series is awesome! Why did we choose this model? This is a FULL 1080 HDTV (720 is HD also, but 1080 IS better). It will display video in the best format possible from 480 up to 1080 automatically. There is still a risk of "burn in" on the plasmas for the first 100 hours, but not for LCD's. Think of stock tickers running at the bottom of the screen or a station logo in the corner. The blacks are just as good on this TV as the plasmas - yes they are VERY dark! If it ever comes to it, this TV should be less to repair than a plasma as long as the engine is fine then it's just the cost of a light bulb (LCD's use a light bulb to generate a picture - not unreplaceable goo). There are MANY ports on this tv and this model has 2 HDTV ports, and yes you should have two. One would be for your cable/satellite and the other would be for your DVD player/recorder (make sure that you have at least a DVD player/recorder that UPCONVERTS - you'll be cheating yourself if you don't). I didn't use the HDMI cable that is provided in the box. I purchased 2 HDMI rocket fish cables from Best Buy for $65 each. Very important - Make sure that you get your cable/satellite service upgraded to HD! All of this is needed to get THE BEST PICTURE POSSIBLE. Did I mention that both the picture and sound are totally awesome. Very Crisp! 20 Watt speakers are fine but I will eventually upgrade to home stereo. No complaints. This is a great TV. You won't want to watch just any TV after seeing HDTV.
Customer Review: Sony KDL-40V2500 40" Bravia V-Series 1080p LCD HDTV Summary: 5 Stars
I was very pleased with Amazon's responsiveness and customer service. The TV is everything I expected and we are really happy about our purchase. I was a little concerned when the TV arrived with a damaged screen. But the freight company and Amazon took care of everything. The freight company's driver informed me upon their arrival that the box looked damaged and they wanted to verify the TV was fine before they left.
They brought the TV into the house, opened it up and turned it on. Although unpowered it looked physically fine, once it was turned on, the internal damage to the LCD screen was obvious. The freight company repacked it on the spot and took it back with them. No hassles at all. I proceeded to Amazon's web site to find a number to call for customer service. There I found a link to have customer service call me directly. I entered the information, clicked the call me button, and my phone rang immediately and transferred me directly to a customer service representative, who proceeded to take all of my information and e-mailed me a confirmation for a replacement TV the very next day.
Although it took another week and a half to receive the replacement, I was able to track its delivery progress the entire way, and once again the freight company verified the TV's condition prior to departing. Obviously I would have liked the first one to arrive fine, but from my perspective all parties involved handled the entire situation expediently and to my satisfaction. I was pleased with all aspects of my transaction, including price. I'll certainly consider Amazon for my future purchases.
Customer Review: Great TV for the money Summary: 5 Stars
The TV was delivered promptly. The price went down shortly after I purchased it and Amazon credited me with the difference under their price guarantee. The TV has a multitude of inputs on it, most of which I don't use, but they are there. It's full 1080P, so when you connect your computer or video game to it it will look good. Also, you'll be ready for any HD that comes down the pike, including Blu-Ray. The picture is good with Standard Definition programming, although I do notice some motion artifacts sometimes. This is usually on a scene with some very black areas that are moving somewhat - there appears to be a delay in the refresh so that the areas looked "stretched" then "snap back" to the proper size. This is not noticeable with High Definition programming. HD looks absolutely amazing, from over-the-air local stations, Dish Network HD programming, and my Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player, using both HDMI and component cables. No complaints with HD. It looks "almost three-dimensional." I have not noticed the screen clouding that other users have complained about. The black areas are very dark, blending in with the frame around the screen. Sound from the built-in speakers is good except when volume is near maximum - then there is some distortion in the bass especially when watching movies on DVD. This would probably be solved with the use of a surround-sound system. The remote control is simplistic and will not control other devices, but it gets the job done. The menu system is easy to navigate through and becomes intuitive after a few uses. Overall, a great TV for the money. I liked it so much I bought a second one.
Customer Review: Better Than Real Life Summary: 5 Stars
As if I needed more reason to watch TIVO and play video games.
6 months after purchasing the Bravia V-Series, I can't stop singing its praises.
I have HD-Cable with DVR connected with red/blue/green inputs, an upscaling dvd player connecting to HDMI, and the a handful of other red/white/yellow connections.
Pros:
-Color and Clarity are exceptional
-Sound is surprisingly good for built-in speakers
-Channels and resolutions change with little delay
-Effectively 180 degree viewable angle. (I haven't measured, but everyone in the room gets a great picture)
-Loads of A/V inputs allow me to hook up all my toys at once.
-Audio and video is customizable at each input allowing me to have one set of volume/color/contrast settings for my dvd player, and another for my video games.
-Each input can be custom named in the menus. I don't have to remember what's connected to "input6", I just select "Playstation"
-Smart Zoom automatically expands low-def channels to fill the screen with minimal distortion.
-Universal remote compatible.
Cons:
-I bought the mustang brackets whose hardware didn't exactly fit. (Maybe I just couldn't figure it out) But with some courage, everything got mounted.
-Once wall-mounted, the 5 (or so) major inputs are inaccessible without bloodying your knuckles. I bought patch cables from radio shack to allow quick detaching of my playstation.
Overall, this is a fantastic TV that is easy to use.
