Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony CMTBX1 CMT Micro Component System with MP3 PlaybackCustomer Review: Equalizer doesn't work, among other problems Summary: 2 Stars
They say you get what you pay for, but I'm not sure you get even that with this mini system. It's cheap - maybe okay for a spare room, but don't expect too much. Everything is getting more and more shoddily made, even products by revered Sony. Now that they're farming out production of these kinds of products to China, it's fair to ask if the golden age of Japanese audio technology has come to an end. This system would suggest it has. I couldn't recommend this to anyone, even for the price. It's a fairly rinky-dink system, with lousy speakers and a non-functioning equalizer function (as I see others have complained about this, I was correct, you can't change the bass or treble). On top of that, the amber-colored display is very hard to read, and the remote does not allow you to select individual tracks. My suspicion is that this unit will not stand the test of time either, but that's just a hunch so far. I always had good luck with Aiwa in the past but I'm not sure they're around anymore. I wish I'd looked around more before I bought this.
Customer Review: Very poor sound quality Summary: 2 Stars
Product works as advertised...plays cd's, am/fm radio works ok, but it sounds terrible. Has a hollow, lifeless sound that can't be fixed using the very limited EQ. It's ok for listening to talk radio, but if you want to listen to music with any life, bass/treble, depth, etc. then this thing should fall right off your short list. I know I can't expect a lot for $100.00, but this is bad.
Customer Review: MP3 Playback is disappointing Summary: 2 Stars
I've had it for a month now and I like the sound quality when it plays CD's and radio. However MP3 devices I connected do not produce enough volume or quality of sound. That feature was a main reason why I selected CMTBX1 as I am sick and tired of cleaning CD's and their going bad over time. It is not bad enough to return, but not good enough to recommend.
Customer Review: Ugly but it sounds okay. Summary: 2 Stars
This stereo has lot's of power but lacks the ability to deliver details of the original music. It's loud but not really Hi Fi. The negative is it is really ugly! It would be good for a kid but not an adults home. Once again, Sony no longer cares about quality. They are too busy making video games. Try another brand.
Customer Review: Trouble shooting Equalizer: Not too happy Summary: 2 Stars
I have followed the directions in the minimal insert enclosed but the Bass and Treble are non existent as far as I am concerned. Right now I feel like I should have bought a $20.00 CD player at a drug store. I have tried everything to increase the Bass and Treble to no avail. Any advice?
