Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony Cybershot DSC-T200 8.1MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom with Super Steady Shot Image Stabilization (Black)

Customer Review: Can't take a decent picture
Summary: 2 Stars

I'm not a professional photographer, but I have been using digital camera's and printing my own photos for the last 10 years. I decided to upgrade from my Pentax 5MP because the flash was weak and the Sony T200 8MP just had too many good sounding features to ignore. From the very first indoor shot I took (in auto mode), I knew there was something wrong. The image colors were distorted by the indoor lighting with an orange cast, and the flash over exposes the center picture subject (blew out the highs). I even had a group photo taken in a room at mid day with large windows, in the auto mode, that should have had no problems, but the image turned out very washed out and grainy, like the camera had to choose a very high ISO - I couldn't believe it. I spent a week playing with the Program functions (not in Auto mode)to get a combination of settings to take a decent indoor picture, with no luck, although the pictures were better. Even after post-processing in Photoshop they were not near as good as my 4 year old camera takes without editing. How can a company like Sony produce a compact point & shoot that doesn't work in point & shoot situations, that's the purpose of an Auto mode! I returned the Sony today and bought a Canon SD870 for about the same price and immediately took several great indoor shots (in the same situation) with no special adjustments. The Canon is great. Note that the Sony did take very good outdoor pics, but most camera's do. I liked the special features of the Sony, although the menu system was terrible. Regardless, if it can't take decent pictures, who cares?

Customer Review: Acceptability Yet To Be Determined!- Troubleshooting Help
Summary: 2 Stars

We bought our camera 2 months ago and I gave myself some time to figure it out during Christmas and after reading the entire manual. After 2 months & trying most settings, I had most of the same complaints as others on Amazon...Auto mode is useless, horrible indoor photos, blurring, yellow halos, grainy, etc. I called Sony to express my disappointment with this product. Our previous camera was a Sony & except for the size & some battery charging issues it still works well. The Sony rep had me go to *Home *Settings *Main Settings *Initialize & reset it to factory settings (something I had not changed). This has seemed to have done the trick; indoor photos are great on Auto now the yellow has disappeared. So I thought I would share my experience. I haven't been able to test it thoroughly for my other complaints...but I have an open case with Sony now and intend on utilizing the 1 year warranty that comes with it, if need be.

I really like the video (my first digital video- so I am easily impressed), Smile shutter is fun, somewhat temperamental, instant quick start up is an asset with 4 little ones, & the small size is wonderful...although I do miss my 10x zoom on some days! ; )

Customer Review: Grainy Indoor Picks
Summary: 2 Stars

Got the camera even before it hit the market through the sony website. I was very excited to get this one as T100 reviews were solid, but this one doesnt stand a chance as per its pricing. The first test i did on it for the indoor picks resulted in poor, grainy pictures. You wont see that on the LCD itself but once you transfer that to the computer and view it the actual grains and picture quality is seen. I tried all the options auto/PGM , EV, modes etc...but still the indoor pictures dont stand upto the mark. Outdoor photos are nice and crisp but all cameras can do that mostly. So if you are having party at home and this is the only camera that are using to capture the fun moments, once you transfer that on computer, your momemts may be ruined. I belive if its a point and shoot , on auto it should give quality close to the manual mode. Anyways I am returnig and again exploring the posibilites ...might be T100 or DSCN2 which I know for sure about nice indoor photos.

Customer Review: Convenient, but low quality pictures
Summary: 2 Stars

Having always owned Cannon cameras I bought this camera as it I was looking for a simple camera that was small for my wife and kids to use. But to my shock, the pictures are very grainy and appear distorted. The colors are not natural either. I thought the camera was defective so I called customer service. They had me run all the checks and then asked me to ship it in for repair, which I did. When it came back there is no difference so I can only conclude that this camera takes sub-par pictures. Most likely this is due to the very small lens. If you want a camera for convenience and simplicity this is it, but I warn you the picture quality is very poor.

Customer Review: A great looking but a VERY underperforming camera
Summary: 2 Stars

Absolutely gorgeous looking camera and the positive aspects ends with that. The pictures are really noisy at high ISO and auto settings. There are workarounds for this problem but the most annoying aspect is the absolutely weak red-eye detection feature. I would say that this feature only works 25% of the time.

Very disappointed with Sony for releasing a product like this.I returned mine for a Canon 870IS.
