Customer Review: "Recording Disabled" problems after 1 year

We bought this camera in 12/2007 and it worked flawlessly for exactly one year. Then in the middle of recording one of my son's basketball games, a yellow DVD with a line through it begins flashing in the middle of the screen. I pressed the record button again and the camera displayed "Recording Disabled".
We mailed the camera to Sony. They told us they could not find anything wrong. They never told us what tests they ran. We got the camera back and it immediately had the same problem. I asked if Sony could recover the video on the disabled disks and they said "yes, for $50 a DVD". I almost laughed out loud. The rep also suggested searching for software on line to fix corrupted disks but I haven't found anything I would trust purchasing. We mailed it back a second time (this time with a bad DVD). Again they said they could find nothing wrong and said I should use Sony DVDs. We had successfully used about a dozen Maxell DVD-RWs and now all of a sudden that's the problem? The camera was mailed back and again after nearly completing 1 DVD, the video function was disabled.
From what I've researched since I would not buy a DVD recorder. Although I wanted to move away from tape, I've read miniDV and Flash Memory camcorders are much more reliable. No matter which type we decide to purchase, it will NOT be a Sony.
