In short, DO NOT BUY unless you have no other option. I wanted a basic but new digital video camera and opted for the Sony SR-47 because it is a SONY - a very bad idea. I am a longtime Sony product user but am SHOCKED with the level of function and video quality. It is horrible in low light, is grainy, no sharpness, and generally unacceptable. If you expect that Sony quality, a basic but good quality digital camera do NOT buy this one. If it weren't for the fact that is was a gift I would have returned it immediately. I have sampled both JVC and Canon in the same price range and the quality was incredibly better quality. My next product of any sort will no longer be a Sony!Customer Review: Not Impressed

The missus bought it, and I have used it, and downloaded the videos. The colors are washed out. Doesn't seem to excel at any one task. Indoor looks washed out, outdoor same.
If you do purchase the camera, buy a second battery, and maybe even a third, you will need them.
We use to have a regular/tape video camera, and the image quality and colors on it were far & away superior to what this camera offers. I don't know, something about new technology should provide superior performance than a camera that was 12 years old.
Oh well, it was the missus that threw her money away on this one.

We bought this camera to film home videos, nothing professional. When we got it, I was very pleased at how small and easy to use it is. But when we actually started filming, the picture quality was very, very poor (not even youtube quality). I didn't want to return it since it is so portable and convenient to use, but we decided we can't use it like that. So I am very disappointed in this product, I expected a lot better, especially since it is a newer model.Customer Review: Buy this if you like poor quality

I purchased this item thinking I would be getting crisp picture quality. I was wrong. Indoors the lighting is extremely poor. The resolution is very weak. In daylight, the camera is slightly better, but the quality is not acceptable by any means. By the way, I was using the HQ setting during recording. Very grainy pictures when you create a DVD it is bad, for this day and age no one wants to look at a DVD of such bad quality, a 2nd grader can run it very simple but not worth buying if you care to save video's for the family.
