Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony DRBT140Q Bluetooth Wireless Stereo Headset (Silver)Customer Review: Excellent Bluetooth Headphones Summary: 5 Stars
I started looking for bluetooth headphones about 6-9 months ago. I wanted something I could use at work on my WIndows laptop, at home on my mac desktop and on the go with my phone. Being able to receive calls would be a plus. I narrowed it down to about 4 or 5 and the Sony DR-BT140Q was in that final 5.
Comfort:
I already have a wired pair of Sony headphones with the same over the ear style so I knew I wouldn't mind that. The headphones do get a bit uncomfortable after a few hours due to my ear shape/size, but it's really not that bad. It actually forces me to take a break.
Price:
The price I paid at the time was $61.99 so it wasn't over my budget. I think for what they do they are a good deal.
Functionality:
I was able to sync these up to my Windows 7 laptop with ease. After changing the default audio output device to the headphones I was in business and free to walk away from my laptop without turning off my music. I had the exact same ease of use on my Mac Mini. I even tested the distance by going from my basement to the third floor of my split level home; no delays or loss of quality. As for my phone, I was able to pair these to my HTC Droid Eris just like any other headset and I was listening to music and making and receiving calls with ease. I did some test calls with my friends and they said the headset sounded clear with no echo or delay.
Construction:
I think the overall construction is solid. The connecting cable to keep them together needs to be broken in a bit, but it's nice to have so you can quick take off your headphones and keep them around your neck as opposed to having to put down individual headphones. The buttons are solid and responsive.
Sound Quality:
For music the headphones broadcast wonderfully. Audiophiles may have some gripes, but for everyday listening I think they are great. I tested this with Rock, Classical and Electronica; all sounded excellent. As stated above call quality is excellent.
Battery Life:
The manual says 12 hours of playback/talk. My experience has been 11-12 hours. So their estimate seems accurate.
Cons:
My only gripe is that you have to use a Sony AC Adapter to charge them. A micro or mini USB port would have made these unstoppable. It is kind of a pain if your AC Adapter is at home and the headphones run out of juice at work because you forgot to charge them. I guess you could always get another adapter though. I also wish Sony would let me output my PS3 audio to the headphones, but thats not a gripe about the headphones. PS3 limitation.
Overall:
I think these are solid bluetooth headphones with a high level of versatility. The price is good and the quality is better. If you are looking for a quality set of Bluetooth headphones to use on your computer or mobile device look no further. Enjoy.
Customer Review: Excellent! Summary: 5 Stars
I was using regular wired headphones for use nearly daily, but this became a huge pain when every time I took my headphones from my pocket it was a tangled disaster that would take 5 minutes to correct. I was fed up! I went searching here, on Amazon.com, for bluetooth headphones...
If you're tired of earbuds and find them as annoying as I do then these phones are PERFECT. The size is beautiful, large for good sound quality but still small enough to fit into your pocket without much trouble. They fit nicely over your ears. They may look a bit bulky, but for the wearer they're very nice.
The buttons are absolutely brilliant. On the right headphone you'll find a power button, microphone, 2 volume buttons, a slider-type device that controls play/pause and next/previous, 1 very small button to answer phone calls, and another button used for pairing the device. All the buttons work beautifully. They feel great (a nice distinct *click*) and don't feel as though they'll wear out after the first 100 clicks. My only complaint is the button to answer calls is quite small, but it's fine. I love the slider, slide it up to go to your next song, slide it down to go to the previous song, and push it in to pause/resume playback. As a side note, the volume control changes the volume for the speakers, NOT the device so if you're phone is set to vibrate the volume will NOT turn on/up the volume of your phone, just the headphones. Very nice.
Very comfortable. They may get slightly annoying after, say, an hour of use. Simply take them off, rub your ears a bit, and you'll be good to go no problem.
Very well built. They feel and look as though they actually wanted to give you your money's worth, which they have!
Battery life can be described as nothing less than superb!! I've only needed to charge it once every 2-4 weeks with almost daily use. It's got a built-in lithium ion battery and a charger, so you wont have to throw out your precious AA's or AAA's or whatever nonsense I hate using.
Music quality is amazing, call quality I'd have to say is ok. The microphone is very good, though. The person on the other line will have no idea you're not talking directly into your phone. Very well designed.
Ah, yes, and pairing is a snap! The instructions clearly explain in a few sentences exactly how to do it. I was able to get it paired and running flawlessly within 2 minutes.
Overall, an extremely well made product by Sony and most definitely worth anywhere in the $60.00 range. Bravo Amazon.com and Sony! Bravo!
Customer Review: My Bluetooth Heaven! Summary: 5 Stars
I am SO impressed by the Sony DRBT140Q Bluetooth Wireless Stereo Headset (Silver)! I'm FINALLY freed from the long cords that would tangle, get caught or get yanked from my head if I moved the wrong way! I've used Sony corded earphones for a long time & was always happy with everything but the cord situation. I much prefer not having earbuds placed within my ears, no matter how superior the sound is alleged to be. I also appreciate not increasing the risk of losing my hearing, which earbuds can do to anyone. Even so, I also have small ears and the darned earbuds would never fit or stay put & caused my ears to hurt.
I wanted something I could use with my iPhone 3G and my iPod Classic. Since the iPod lacks Bluetooth, I bought the little Sony dongle Sony Bluetooth Wireless Transmitter for iPod (Black) to allow me to enjoy the earphones.
Before purchasing both, I contacted Sony to ensure I'd be able to use the earphones with both my iPhone 3G and my iPod Classic. Sony said I wouldn't be able to use the headphones for both at the same time -- so I was willing to reconnect/pair each time I wanted to use one or the other, just to have Bluetooth in an earphone style I was comfortable with and to get away from my cord issue.
Now, here is something that I wasn't prepared for: I was DELIGHTED to discover that I could actually pair both the iPhone 3G & the iPod Classic at the SAME time! Sure enough, I could enjoy my music, have a call come in on the iPhone, answer the call, the music stops -- then picks right back up again, where it left off, after I hang up! Totally AWESOME!!!
I'm so thrilled I got more than I expected -- I don't have to go through any machinations to trade off between devices. I'm freed from the cords, the sound is great, and I'm very happy with my purchases. Call it My Bluetooth Heaven!
Customer Review: Best bluetooth headset so far Summary: 5 Stars
I used to have a Sony DRBT21G/B Stereo Bluetooth Headset which broke after several years of purchase. Since then, I tried different kinds of bluetooth headsets but didn't find a better one. But I finally encountered this Sony DRBT 140Q which by far is the best bluetooth headset in my opinion.
I was quite satisfied with my previous Sony bluetooth headset but the only complaint was that I couldn't rest my head with this headset since it's a neck-band style. DRBT 140Q in contrast has only a short string so I can easily rest my head on a pillow while using this headset. Other than that, the basics of the headset are pretty much same. It's comfortable enough and rests on my ears pretty nicely.
If you are picky about sound quality, then forget about bluetooth. If you don't care about sound quality that much but prioritize the convenience of "wirelessness," this is the one you should get.
I mainly use it with my iPhone4 and it works brilliantly. I can use all the key functions (volume, fast track etc) with my iPhone. It also works well with my laptop (Acer Aspire TimelineX AS1830T-3721 11.6-Inch Laptop (Black))
Can't wait to go to Gym with this little but awesome headset.
[update on 3/4/2011]
The battery life is very long. Once charged, it usually lasts for more than a week with 1-2 hours daily use.
Pairing is quite easy and intuitive.
I have used it while I jog. It sticks to your ears quite well but when running, you sometime get jumps in sound every now and then. That's the only shortcoming I have found so far.
Customer Review: Skeptical at first, but everything worked out Summary: 5 Stars
At first, I was under the assumption I was screwed. I went and bought me 70 dollar headphones, without even knowing if they'd link up with my Blackberry Bold. And of course, there were very few reviews on the quality of the speakers and mic.
I'm glad to say, everything worked out. When I got them, I just read the instruction manual, linked them up to my Bold and everything worked out. The sound quality is very... whiny at first, and if you burn them in, they sound alot better. Some notes are a bit too high, but what can do you do, it's in the design of the headphones.
The mic is also surprisingly good, workable and hearable on even a city bus. The ironic and strange thing is the mic works optimally when the headphones are on your ears. You'd think holding them with like the mic near your mouth would work better, but somehow my friends couldn't hear me that way.
Rating out of 5
Sound Quality -
Before Burn : 3.5
After Burn : 4.0 (Still a bit high, but I figure I'll get used to it)
Microphone : 4.0 (I have no clue how well they work, but no one's really complained, and I primarily talk on the bus...)
Connectivity: 5.0 (Walked all around my small apartment with them on, and was able to hear it within the 30 ft that it said it could)
I'm very satisfied. The sound-quality could be better, but for the convenience, I can't complain at all.
