Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony DVD-R 16x Recordable DVD (4.7GB) - 100 Disc Spindle

Customer Review: fine, reliable media
Summary: 5 Stars

Sony makes a very reliable blank DVD-R that can handle up to 4.7 GB of data. Moreover, these blank DVD-Rs are capable of recording data at speeds up to 16x. The data I record onto these lasts for years, proving the test of time. I have used these as data discs, discs to record video and discs to record audio. Great!

The DVD-R discs are compact and easy to store. While the discs are still blank, store them in the circular case on the spindle that they came in. After your burn data onto them, I would recommend storing them in slim jewel cases instead of paper sleeves. It's just better protection for your DVD-Rs that have data stored on them. Don't store these discs, burnt or blank, in rooms that become very hot; this causes damage to any brand of this type of disc and you could lose data over time.

There are two caveats that many other people note about any brand of this product: when you are burning the data onto the blank disc, don't be surprised if you see that the data is burning at a rate slower than 16x. This can happen if your burner doesn't have the capacity to burn faster, or it may be a quirk. I am not a professional so I cannot be certain of precisely what causes this phenomenon; but I assure you that the extra minute or two (tops) that you wait to get your DVD-R completed is worth the wait. In addition, DON'T write on these using Sharpie ink pens. The ink can seep through the top coating of the DVD-R disc and slowly but surely compromise your data--and you wouldn't want that, now would you? If you need to label the discs, label its' jewel case using a post-it note. At least that's what I do.

Overall, Sony blank DVD-R discs store data reliably over the years and I believe that an extra minute to burn the data onto the blank disc is well worth it in the event that it doesn't actually burn at 16x.

Use them in good health!

Customer Review: Only Brand I Have Used That Have Not Had Any Failures
Summary: 5 Stars

I have burned almost 1,000 DVDs and every brand I have tried has had some failures in a spindle of 100. With one brand, I had as many as 18 that failed out of 100. I am on my second spindle of 100 Sony DVD-R reprintables and not a single one has failed so far. (Actually one did, but it was my fault.) Out of all the brands I have used, they seem the best. I only use 3 brands now: Sony, HP or Verbatim. I would buy Sony again anytime. Note that every brand I have tried fails if I go above the minimum burn speed. Could be my old slow hardware that causes the problem with not being able to burn at higher speeds. I have also experienced playback problems with certain brands. They appear to burn okay, but then have problems playing back. No issues with any of the Sony disks so far with recording or playback.

Customer Review: So far no problems
Summary: 5 Stars

Our church records every Sunday service to a dvd, and then burns 14 copies of it for folks who can't make it that week. Most of the recipients receive discs weekly, and we've never heard any complaints from them; we deliver them face to face, so you'd think if the quality was bad they'd share, especially if it were a persistent problem. I can't speak for anyone else's experience, but we find these to meet our needs quite well, while other brands have given us problems in the past. Just bought 300 more (discs, not spindles - 3 spindles) for the next 20 weeks.

Customer Review: Good product
Summary: 5 Stars

Sadly, most of the negative reviews here have to do with shipping errors or ordering errors. (The one Sony "conspiracy theory" review is just ridiculous.) If we are going to be fair and just rate the product: These are great, stable disks. I use Sony Media in a Sony DVD burner and get perfect results almost every time.

Using the "cheap" disks, I used to run into mis-copies and coasters all the time. After switching to Sony brand (over two years ago), I haven't had trouble since.
Great product. Highly recommended.

Customer Review: Fine for me and better than other brands for me
Summary: 5 Stars

We have two household DVD players, with another brand of +R DVD (making movies on my PC), one DVD player never played them, and the other was 'iffy' at best. With the Sony Accucore DVD +Rs, they seem to play in both machines, and consistently. So for me, Sony Accucore is better than other brands. It was more expensive, too. Interestingly, our five-year-old DVD player seems to be less fussy with home-made DVDs than our 2 year old DVD player - go figure.
