Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony DVP-FX820 8-Inch Portable DVD Player, BlackCustomer Review: Blown Away by High Definition Summary: 5 Stars
According to the Wikipedia write-up on portable DVD players (PDPs), the standard definition PDPs is 480x234. This makes the FX820's 800x480 resolution "high-def" by PDP standard. Indeed, that's 3.4 times as much resolution and you can definitely tell the difference on every DVD you play.
I bought the player (the red one) after reading all the helpful reviews here. (Thanks, guys!) The FX820 feels a bit heavy to me, but otherwise is the "perfect" PDP! The screen is gorgeous, the two headphone jacks are convenient, and the controls are easy to use. The battery life has not disappointed at all; I set the brightness at half and get at least 5 hours out of each charge. I simply cannot be happier.
If you're patient you can find this player at new for $160 or even $150, but even at the list price of $179, I think it's a great buy. I used to own a cheap PDP but it was a pain to use and poor quality. I'm so glad I upgraded to this Sony player. My family will have lots of on-the-go fun for years to come.
Customer Review: So versatile Summary: 5 Stars
When I found these refurbed for less than $100, I took a flyer on two figuring that even if they wouldn't do exactly what I wanted, I'm still buying Sonys for the price of Polaroids.
But they do EXACTLY what I wanted.
They have an in-out toggle switch which allows them to act as either a DVD player or a monitor. So by adding a couple of male-male miniplug cables, I can run a DVD on one that plays on both, with independent volume control for headphones on each. Fantastic. Having figured out a way to attach them to the seats in my Odyssey, I can now put a DVD in each and my girls can watch different things or the same things with a flip of the switch.
Adding power ports under the seats and running the cables under the carpet, I have a $250 aftermarket entertainment setup that's more flexible than the factory RES costing several times as much.
Oh yeah, and the picture's great too, the design is smart and rugged, yadda yadda yadda.
Customer Review: Very nice portable DVD player with a long battery life Summary: 5 Stars
This DVD player is easy to use and very convenient. It's light weight and its battery can be detached to make it smaller if you have access to a power source and don't need a battery. A remote control is included but there isn't a place to put it so I usually just use the controls on the DVD itself. There are two earphone plugs so you don't need to have a earphone split cord to share the DVD with people. The display is very clear and it is customizable.
The cover scratches pretty easily but the DVD player itself is durable. The open button for the lid of the DVD is easily pushed so sometimes, you have to be careful that you don't push the button and open the lid, causing whatever you are playing to end abruptly. The swivel screen is extremely useful and can make holding the machine on your lap very comfortable under any circumstances.
I think there is a problem with this DVD player and multi-regions - I don't think it supports multi-region DVDs but I can't be sure...
Customer Review: Just go for it!! Summary: 5 Stars
The Sony DVP-FX820 8-inch Portable DVD Player is wonderful!! Because my home was flooded, I have been living in a hotel for the past 3+ months. The hotel is very upscale but the telly is terrible--and the stations they offer are even worse!! Between my generous family donating CD's and Netflex, I'm able to avail myself of a movie or sit-com when I want. (Oh yes!! I read--I have a Kindle that I love!)
I'm in my 70's and not necessarily gadget-literate, but his little portable is so easy to use. Basically plug in and go!! The pictue is crystal clear. It's light-weight and the controls are easy to manage with my arthritic fingers. I must admit, the sound coming directly from the speakers are not that great to my ear; I purchased Bose earphones and with them, the sound is truly fantastic!
I highly recommend this product, and I couldn't be happier with the performance--it's been a life-saver, believe me. It has earned each and every star!!
Customer Review: Perfect portable dvd player Summary: 5 Stars
I just received this dvd player in the mail about 2 hours ago (which consequently came very fast, and it was free shipping through amazon) and I couldn't be happier; the picture quality is great and the sound is great to. I bought this as a gift for my wife and I know she will love it. I originally wasn't planning on spending this much ($150.00) for a portable dvd player but after reading the reviews on cheaper models and comparing to the more high end I thought that might be a mistake and I didn't want to throw my money away on something that might not last long. I am very particular about what I spend my money on, especially when in comes to electronics, and I did a ton of research before I made the decision to buy this dvd player. If you are in the market for a portable dvd player I would definitely recommend this product. I just finished watching a movie on it and it was great.
