Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony DVP-FX820 8-Inch Portable DVD Player, BlackCustomer Review: "Class 1M Radiation" is a required label for the laser in all DVD players Summary: 5 Stars
A previous user wrote that this player is somehow dangerous because it has "Class 1M Radiation". That review is an over reaction.
"radiation" can refer to any energy source (light, heat, radio waves, etc) and does not mean the product contains plutonium (or kryptonite or americium for that matter).
In this case, it refers to light. Class 1M is assigned to low power lasers like those found in every CD and DVD player - it must have a laser (or laser-like) light source to work.
The warning label is required by the government for any product containing a laser. If you find a product that has a laser and does not have the label, you should be suspicious that it is counterfeit or the manufacturer does not intend to comply with US laws.
This product is no different, and no more hazardous, than any other DVD or CD player.
Customer Review: What Separates this Unit from Others Summary: 5 Stars
Rather than rehash everything others have said, in my opinion, these qualities separate this unit from others:
1. Build Quality-Excellent
2. Picture-the best I have seen in a portable-highest resolution, sharpness
3. Battery life-excellent-more than 4 hours-battery is large, but very thin and does not add a great deal of bulk
4. Controls are located on the screen, rather than having to reach around the screen to operate while in a "twisted' mode, in my opinion, its strongest characteristic
5. A bit heavier than most
6. SONY makes reliable stuff
Radio Shack sells a big for $12 which is perfect for this unit...Nothing fits into the bag except the unit....great for air travel....put your accessories into your suitcase and board the plane lighter
That's about it.

Customer Review: I love this DVD player (had for 3 months) Summary: 5 Stars
I love this DVD player. Ill explains why (I use it for home use). It has great picture quality. The Audio is great too. It also has 2 audio jacks so that way you won't need a splitter. Also it comes with a cord that you can connect to the TV so that way if you're regular DVD goes on the ritz you won't be without. Another thing is I have sometimes rent DVD's that were very badly stratched and they still played and did not skip. I have not had any problems with it, I can watch 3 DVD's back to back before the battery dies and it is a very quiet unit. I did a lot of researsh before making the perchace to me it was between panosonic, auoto vox, and this one. After a lot of people reviews and product specs this one is the more advanced and was reported to last longer plus it has great customer reviews. Now that Ihave it, I know I made the right choice.
Customer Review: Functions as described with no disappointments Summary: 5 Stars
I bought two of these portable Sony DVD players for my Explorer. I hade an single audiovox TV/DVD player that I mounted in between the seats for my two kids but it did not work well and eventualy failed. I mounted each one on the headrest of each seat with a mounting system/carry case I bought from Walmart. It is mounted verticle taking up very little space and not in the way. They both work great. Picture is excellent and speakers deliver plenty of volume. I hooked up Gamecube to one which worked great. During a recent drive to Florida from Massachusetts, my kids had a traveling entertainment system with no complaining as they each had their own unit. ALL the dual systems in stores are made cheaply and will not deliver like this Sony unit. I did a lot of research before buying these. I am glad I paid the extra money for a quality product.
Customer Review: Great Portable DVD Player! Summary: 5 Stars
This is my first portable DVD player and I chose it based on the reviews. I bought it to take on long airplane trips and I think the size is perfect - not too big with a clear, sharp picture. Swivel screen is a real plus. I took the advice of another reviewer and turned the LCD brightness to 10 and as they said, it wasn't too dark and got me the full 6 hours of playing time! Another reviewer said that you could not turn unit on/off without using the remote and that is NOT true - there is an on/off button on the side of the unit (maybe that reviewer's button was in "lock" position so that's why it didn't work) and the other controls (volume, menu, back, forward, etc.) are located below the screen. I am so pleased with this unit and it will fit perfectly in my carry-on bag. Price was great and free shipping too! Can't go wrong with this one.
