The picture and sound are good, and the player looks terrific because it comes in colors. The fact that the screen can tilt forward and back, left to right, and can be folded back 180 degrees, makes it nice to hold on your lap on a plane. HOWEVER, DO NOT LOSE YOUR REMOTE. In fact, you might want to tether it to the machine. The on-machine adjustments are made on "bar" below the screen. They are touch activated, very sensitive to pressure, and frustrating to use. In addition, there aren no easy demarcations of where one control begins and ends; they all kind of run together. The volume control is a 1 1/2 - 2" segment alongthe bar, and you are supposed to set the volume by sliding your finger across this segment. I finally glued beads on the "-" and "+" "volume" part of the bar, just to find it. The bar is so sensitive that in slight darkness, feeling for the beads can unintentionally adjust the volume. It is trial and error. I think a dial or pressure sensitive button or dial would have been a better design. True, the sound and picture qualities are very nice,and the machine has other kinds of tricks that may be nice, but they also add another set of controls on the screen and on the remote that are more confusing. The toggle on the machine is also very small and someone with large fingers might find it hard to use. There is another touch sensitive button to the right of the toggle that brushing against it activates another control, and shrinks the screen to 3/4 size. I WOULD NOT BUY THIS MACHINE AGAIN. It is too much money for something frustrating to use. Sony makes good products that do what you bought them for. However, the adjustment controls make it a pain to use. The DVD player looked so cute. I knew our daughter was going to love the look of it when she opened it up for Christmas. Unfortunately when I opened it up before wrapping it, the screen was smashed. I can not tell you how the unit worked as we sent it right back and received a coupon worth the price of the unit for use on Amazon. We really would have preferred to have a credit on our credit card instead.
