Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony DVP-NS57P/S Progressive Scan DVD Player, SilverCustomer Review: Excellent Value...Worth a lot more! Summary: 5 Stars
I am the type of person who likes to get the most value for the money I spend. This Sony definitely gives you the most value for what you get!
We have a room for the kids and they love to watch Disney DVDs and can sit for hours entertained and immersed in a good video. Superb video and audio quality makes it more enjoyable for them.
I decided to get a good versatile DVD Player that would provide the best picture and audio quality for the children. I did not want to obtain the higher end dvd players with 780p, 1080i, or 1080p high definition because the television in the childrens play room is only capable of 480p at best. Therefore, if you are looking for a DVD player to use for your 1080i, or 1080p flat screen TV...then do not read any further...this DVD player is not for you. Always remember your high definition television is limited by what you connect it to. This progressive scan DVD player provides much better quality than standard television and is considered enhanced definition, but by no means high definition.
Now check this out! For less than $60, you get a player that can play MP3s, CD, DVD, CD-R, SVCD, CD-RW, DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, DVD+R DL, DVD-R DL, Video CD, JPEG photo playback and now combine that with Progressive scanning for an awesome 480p Enhanced Definition Picture! WOW!!!
I found this particular player could play the childrens scratched DVDs, while my other more expensive DVD player could not. I also found this player to have produced the best sound quality on the childrens television I have heard, coming from their tv set. The money I spent for this DVD player definitely is worth every penny. I am so happy with this DVD/CD player.
The remote is very easy to use. The functions for playback, resume and scrolling through chapter scenes is effortless. The only reason I don't switch out my other more expensive DVD player is because my living room TV is a 1080i flatscreen. Otherwise, I would exclusively have this DVD player on all of my televisions.
My experience with Sony products have always been good. This time it is more than good. The quality and performance--plus the cheap price for this type of DVD/CD player, makes it the most excellent Sony product I have encountered up to this date and time. It's great to find a quality product, but to have both quality and value...now that's something to be happy about!
Customer Review: Finally! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this dvd player simply to be free to buy dvds of any region. In that respect, it is 100% perfect. My needs are pretty simple. I wouldn't say I'm easily impressed, but on the other hand, I don't need a lot of gadgets, or a complex menu.
I have had this unit for about a year now, and no issues at all. Plug and play. I'm not great with techy things, but this was no fuss. Just take it out of the box, hook it up, and voila.
I will never buy a "normal" dvd player again. Region-free is the way to go!
For the parents out there who are going crazy trying to find Richard Scarry dvds for their little ones, they are still easily available from Australia and sometimes the UK. With this player, you can order them from anywhere and not worry that they won't play. I have ordered dvds online from amazon.uk, amazon france, and ebay sellers all over the world. I've never had a single problem.
I also like that it came with eletical adapters, in case I move abroad again (I wish, but not likely!).
The remote is easy to use, and includes a zoom function that I use sometimes to scope out details in the background. Very intuitive and user friendly.
I hope it lasts forever, because I don't think there are many electronic items out there these days that are super affordable, super reliable, and super easy to use.
Thanks, Sony!!!!!
Customer Review: Best I've found for scratched DVD's and DVD+/-R Summary: 5 Stars
My DVD player was several years old, and wouldn't play scratched DVD's, and frequently choked on my home-burned DVD's. After reading all the reviews about how well this model handles less-than-perfect DVD's and DVD-R/DVD+R, I bought this model.
I'm happy to report that this player doesn't miss a beat. It has successfully read ALL my scratched DVD's and home-made DVD's that my old player didn't like, without a single hiccup. I also have another decent DVD player that would choke on only 4 of my DVD/R's, and all 4 of those work perfectly in the Sony also.
If you use NetFlix, this is a great player since many of their DVD's are scratched by previous renters.
This is a great value for the money - since it plays all the DVD's that other players have problems with, it would still be a good deal if it cost twice as much. It doesn't have an S-video output, but it does have component output, which is better video quality than S-video anyway. One correction to a prior review - someone said this unit is not made in China - maybe that was true last year, but the new ones are made in China. It's hard to find ANYTHING which isn't made in China any more; as long as the manufacturer maintains quality control over it's products, it really doesn't matter in what country they place their factory.
Customer Review: Much better than my last one Summary: 5 Stars
This player is not expensive so I don't need to go into some PRO/CONs act like so many people's reveiws do. It is strait foreward, and from a reputable company. It works! That is enough in a day and age when customers pay top dollar for things that mostly don't! It is not a 5.1 system and does not support such direct hookups, it is simple to set up and dependable to use as a DVD player. It has component video abiltiy and I have not had a skip yet since purchase(unlike my other $350 phillips system!) It has many video options including saturation and quick setups for blacks and whites to look crisp. It can use a coaxal cable for a 5.1 decoder, but those are expensive and you bought this to save dough! It supports Dolby and DTS(unlike expensive Phillips who only supports dolby). Bear in mind, Lord of the Rings will not play in that fancy 6.1 DTS as this player only supports DTS 5.1(who sells a 6.1 theater speakers anyway? -retorical question- And why did Peter Jackson impliment such a wasteful frill on his DVD's?) The player emulates sound just fine on it's own and a decoder is an option but expensive, I will probably upgrade eventually though. Nice Player, inexpensive and very good quality too!
Customer Review: Really good, solid DVD player. Basic functions. Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great DVD player. It is solid, and I've had it for about 3 years now, and doesn't even hiccup. It has 3 levels of adjustable sharpness which is a great feature. It also has customizable settings for displaying movies in Cinema, Dynamic and Custom settings, which adds to the experience of watching the same movie in a different tone every time.
Its a pretty solid player, and it decodes your dvds for your home theater system into its corresponding Dolby or DTS sound. The Coaxial sound output gives your home theater system a clean, digital sound, with very realistic bassy sounds. Explosions, planes, waterfalls, etc sound great.
I have yet to buy a Sony product that breaks on me (unless I drop it on hard concrete) and sometimes they still keep working all cracked open haha....anyway, I'm just sharing my experience.
One thing I don't like is that the player itself only has 4 buttons, so it won't work properly without its remote. So, don't lose it!!
