Customer Review: Great DVD player for the price

I've had this DVD player a few weeks now and have watched a couple dozen DVDs. None have given me any problems, including scratched DVDs and DVDs burnt on cheap media which would freeze and skip on my old econo DVD player.
The pros: The user interface is excellent. It seems solid, quick to respond, and well made. I love the speed up/slow down feature, very cool. It's sleek and compact looking, excellent remote control response range.
The cons: The remote will not program for too many TVs, there's only about a dozen codes and none of them work for my older TV. I'm sure it's fine if you're TV is from the last 5 years or so, or a very common older one though.
This model is one of very few DVD players I looked at that wasn't made in China, definitely a plus in my book (although many other Sonys are).
I can't yet speak for long-term use, but overall, I'm very impressed.

This is a great price on this DVD player. I already have this same model but I bought another one from Amazon for the 2nd tv. Amazon has a much better price then what it's selling for in a popular discount store. What is really nice about this DVD player is that it "remembers" where you stopped watching the DVD, and when you turn it back on it starts at where you last stopped. It can remember up to a couple DVDs. So you could stop watching one dvd in the middle of a movie, put in another dvd and stop watching that one half way. Then go back to the first movie, and start watching that movie from where you left off. The go to the 2nd movie and start watching that where you left off. It's really great when you have more then one person who watches movies, so you don't have to fast forward to get to where they left off watching.Customer Review: Wow!

I can't believe people are writing negative reviews on this player at all. I have seen some of them, and quite frankly some of them are just plain absurd. What do you want out of a sub $60 player?
It has played every dvd i have burned flawlessly. No pixelization as you might get with some older or cheaper players. It also played a random Mp3 disk i put together with no problem...and even listed the tracks.
The picture and audio are fantastic as well. Sure it doesn't have a ton of "bells and whistles" to it, but i was just looking for a basic player that would just play my dvd's flawlessly and this player does a great job of it. If you want a dvd player without the high price tag that will deliver great picture and sound, this is the one for you!

I got this to use in my bedroom with an old analog set that I do not plan to upgrade. I frist tried an upconverting VCR with it and the picture was all distored. My 20 yr old set needed just a regular DVD.
This DVD player is that and more. It is built well and feels quality. I have watched about 12 hours of movies now and it has worked pefrfect. It also has a lot of extra features. Like play fast and play slow with voice which can be very fun. Lots of searching modes...skip, advances, you name it and this has it.
The best thing is being albe to use and analog set with excellent picture. Hard to find one that is not upcoverting and you don't need that on a 20 year old set.
Great DVD player for the money.

Five stars, because it has performed perfectly. However, I looked for a region-free dvd-player and this is not one of them. Sites on the web led me to believe it was - I will check it out better next time. It is not worth to return it at less than $50, I can wait a little longer ~ a couple of years. It was tested against a Playstation 3 and there were no apparent difference in output. Also tested it versus a blueray version of the test movie on the PS 3. I liked the colors better on the dvd and my friend thought one could see too many things and little flaws in the movie on the blueray... A blueray player went way down my list, if not totally off.
