Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony DVP-NS700H/B 1080p Upscaling DVD Player, BlackCustomer Review: Huge step up from NS75 -- yes, I can see the improved quality Summary: 5 Stars
I had the very good Sony NS75 upconverting player, but when I saw this new NS700 at such a great price (same as the NS75 two years ago), I jumped on it. The old NS75 did only 1080i, while this new player does 1080p. In fact, it's the first HDTV peripheral I've bought that exploits my nearly two-year-old A2000's native 1080p.
Some may say, who can tell the difference between 1080i and 1080p? Well, between this player and my old one, I can. Not only is the progressive scan superior, Sony seems to have really improved upconversion processing in the two years since the NS75. Before, I was aware of the upconversion. Now, the NS700 does such a phenomenal job, it really does feel like watching true hi-def from a DVD.
This player is so good and such a good deal that I feel comfortable putting off a Blu-ray/PS3 player purchase for a while.
Customer Review: Quality DVD - upconverts to 1080p Summary: 5 Stars
Have owned this for only 24hrs so far. It looks sleek and has a beautiful remote. I send audio via optical to my receiver and video via hdmi to my Panasonic plasma 42inch HDTV. For the technically challenged, use the user-friendly manual to set everything to your taste and this superb player will automatically upconvert your dvds for you. I have noticed that the sound quality is significantly improved over my 2yr old Toshiba dvd player even though I used optical for that too. Other bonus features in the remote include the ability to control your TV using the Dvd remote, changing the tv display, recall upto 6 dvds you've played in the past and continue from where you left off, audo presets and much more. I really love the remote. Fits snugly in your palm. Back to the dvd player. It has blue light which perfectly contrasts with the black color.
Customer Review: A Great Buy Summary: 5 Stars
Back in November I purchased a new Sony XBR Tv and felt if I was going to spend the money I should upgrade my dvd player. My old dvd player was also a sony and it was horrible it always had trouble playing my burned dvds and dvds that had prior viewings (most of my dvds are bought used).
Needless to say the new dvd player on a nice tv made the difference it was as though I was watching HD. In all honestly I could not stop watching movies I was so impressed it was like theater quality in my home.
I than got Blue Ray DVD player for Christmas which was 4xs the price. Let me say that the Blue Ray was only slightly better than my Sony DVP and I have decided to move my sony to the upstairs tv where the bulk of my tv viewing is done.
For the price of the sony i dont think you can find a better DVD player.
Customer Review: Great Buy Summary: 5 Stars
The Sony upscaling DVD player is lightweight, small and unintrusive. It works beautifully without being "in your face". The picture is crisp and clear using an S Video cable, and the sound blows you away. It is easier to understand dialogue than on my bother's TV. Also, the picture ratio of the Sony player fits my widescreen LCD TV, whereas the last DVD player I had looked distorted unless I used Zoom. Then I lost the outside edges of the movies. It's great to see the entire image now! I had only two minor objections: my last player turned on when I opened the tray. The Sony must be turned on in order to open the tray. And the direction booklet is a bit daunting and not completely user-friendly. But with study and perserverance it all makes sense, then it's great. Thumbs up to Sony!
Customer Review: Great Player Summary: 5 Stars
Based on good things I'd read, this is the DVD player I bought to go with my Sony Bravia HDTV.
With its amazingly compact size and weight, the Sony NS700HB stacks nicely on top of other equipment. What's more, it's reasonably priced at $80.00.
I've linked the player and TV with an HDMI cable. I tried the Dynex and Sony brand cables, and both performed equally well.
The player does take time to load, but that's not a minus to me. The player's functions and remote seem well laid out, and its video/audio performance is excellent.
All in all, I'm pleased with this player and definitely recommend it. Still, I can't help but look forward to seeing how upconverting DVD players evolve in the future.
