Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony HDR-HC9 6MP MiniDV High Definition Handycam Camcorder 10x Optical ZoomCustomer Review: SONY HDR-HC9 IS REALLY GREAT Summary: 3 Stars
I been looking for a camcorder for 5 months and I did lots of research in that time, I was in favor of a Canon at first ( S D ). As I read more reviews then you can imagine the cons of low light recording and the noise of the unit( mini-tape ) was a major concern.
I found a web sight that had a video which a man explain everything you need to know about formats & media plus editting on a computer, for me a novice it was invaluable. I went for the Sony HDR-HC9 over a Canon that was similar and cost much less and I'am happy with my decision. The Sony ( H D )is super and I only did a sample recording in the house with only light from the outside and it was very good and the touch screen is nice for rewinding the tape to view what you just shot. Highly recommend this camcored.Amazon is great place to buy anything if you like the price. Stanley of Olney, Maryland ( 5 STARS not the 3 shown )
Customer Review: Sony HDR Review Summary: 3 Stars
I love Sony's camera products but technology makes things more difficult. I am still learning this camera. I wish the focal length was greater. I hate touching my screen for playback controls and other features. Camera needs a strap to put over your head as a safety precaution from dropping it.
I hHate the fact that I just can't hook it up to my fireware and capture video through windows movie maker. Sony software is very confusing.
I love the quality video that the camera provides. Thanks.
Customer Review: Good Camera ... but where's the cinema mode ? Summary: 3 Stars
I just got this camera yesterday, and I love the image quality, but I'm extremely disappointed that this does not have an inbuilt cinema mode as advertised. Canon vixia hv40 has cinema mode mentioned in the user manual, but the Sony hdr-hc9 has something about a cinematic effect. Does this work ? Does it really record in 24p, if not, does anyone know how to get that cinema effect ? Please help. If its not possible, I wonder why I did not buy the canon Vixia hv40.
Customer Review: Loved it until it developed 'double vision' Summary: 2 Stars
There's a lot to love about the HC9, at least while it works. Others have gone over its good points, but I particularly liked the quality for the size and the ability to take flash pictures (though the flash often cast a shadow thanks to its weird positioning). The bad news: After about a year of use, my HC9 developed "double vision." The video usually looks fine when I first turn it on, but after several minutes, the jittery double vision begins, creating a fuzzy image that makes the video completely unusable. I have not been able to fix this by tinkering with auto/manual focus or Steadyshot.
UPDATE: I have sent this camera to a reliable repair shop and was told the problem is with the delicate motors failing in the lens. Usually this kind of failure is caused by some kind of shock, and even a small bump will do it, apparently. The repair person has seen these types of lenses fail multiple times in the past. Essentially, if you plan to treat the camera with anything but delicate handling, then it might not be for you. I was using it as a dashboard camera. The repair is about half the cost of the camera.
Customer Review: Great!! For the short time it worked. Now it's JUNK Summary: 1 Stars
A $1000 camera should last a little longer with minimal use. Sony has included great features with this camera and the picture quality is great... But look up C:32:11 error on the internet including the HC9 and you will see how many people are facing the same problem. Follow my advice, CHOOSE a different camcorder!!
