Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony ICF-C218 Automatic Time Set Clock Radio (Black)Customer Review: Tremendous value, easy to read, bright enough LCD, accurate, great instructions, high quality radio Summary: 5 Stars
After 1.5 years and lots of use, I can say that this radio is a terrific value for the money. It is well designed & attractive with a relatively small footprint. Has a pretty good instruction manual that is easy to follow. Glad I got it. Recommend highly.
I like the idea that you can fall asleep to the radio, have the alarm set on "buzzer", which is actually a gentle beep that gets louder and louder and more insistent till you turn it off. I find I cannot ignore this alarm clock. I couldn't imagine sleeping through it as you can hear it down the hall! (And like many people, who wants to get up from a deep snooze???-no choice with this one.) Never be late or hurried again!
The radio is actually fairly high quality with good sound and quite simple to tune to reception.
I guess an alternative to this effective alarm clock would be a sledge hammer poised to drop on you at the appropriate time. I think I'll take the Review: Satisfaction Summary: 5 Stars
My Bose Wave radio quit working suddenly one day and I called the company and found I could get it reconditioned for $99. Well I figured I could get a decent radio for less than that, so got a recommendation from my daughter. She has a Sony ICF-C218 and likes it. So I ordered mine. It came very quickly and I am so pleased that I have recommended it to several friends, all of whom have purchased one of their own. Oh, the cost was $11 plus shipping, a far cry from $99 and I am more than pleased. The radio is easy to operate, even without reading the directions. It sets the time on its own after being unplugged. (I travel frequently and unplug my appliances while gone.) I get a lot more stations than I did with the Bose, for whatever reason, and my favorite program comes in just as well. I recommend this radio to anyone who wants a small bedside radio with an alarm.
Customer Review: Sony Dream Machines are the BEST Summary: 5 Stars
Sony makes the best, most durable and functional alarm clock radios, period. I previously owned an old Sony Dream Machine for 14 years, followed by a couple years of other brand clock radios and sound machines that quickly broke or malfunctioned. I learned my lesson and went back to Sony with this inexpensive model. I have owned this clock radio for a couple of years now and it still works perfectly. The automatic time set is a convenient feature. The radio and volume control work well. The alarm is easy to set and the steadily increasing "beep beep beep" alarm tone is effective but not terribly annoying. You can slap the snooze button as hard and often as needed without harming the machine. The display is fine in terms of size and brightness and the radio itself is small and contemporary in appearance. No complaints.
Customer Review: Great little alarm radio Summary: 5 Stars
My brother researches everything before he buys and purchased this clock radio after his died (after 30 years). He was so impressed with the functions that he bought me one. I recommeded it to my mom and she is buying one. What I love about this is the ease of set up and no messing with the time change twice a year. And my neighborhood has black outs and brown outs often enough that the battery back up is a must. And I actually like the brightness of the numbers. When I wake up I don't have to hunt for the time. I can see it clearly. The radio is fine for what I use it for and I love being able to turn the alarm off with a feel touch, not having to look for it. The little indent to turn off on top is perfect. I like how small a foot print it also is. There is nothing worse than a clock taking up an entire night stand.
Customer Review: I love it Summary: 5 Stars
I was kind of hesitant when I saw some of negative reviews here about the brightness of the display. But I didn't like the shape of the other model where the display can be adjusted so I decided to give this one a try. After 3 days of use, I don't see anything wrong with the level of brightness of this one at all. I think it's perfect actually. Maybe Sony has modified it after they saw the negative reviews here. I don't know. But it doesn't bother me. I've been wanting an alarm clock with a large display and no ticking sound and this one does the job for me. The battery backup is great. I had a power outage once and the clock of my kitchen appliances got reset but not this one. The radio works fine. The sound quality is decent for a small unit like this. All in all, it's a good buy especially for the price.
