Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony ICF-C318 Automatic Time Set Clock Radio with Dual Alarm (White)

Customer Review: Finally I found the ultimate alarm clock
Summary: 5 Stars

The way this clock sets the alarm time is ingenious! It's so easy to use, especially for me whose work time changes daily. There are two knobs on the two sides of the clock, because this is a dual-alarm clock. You own one knob and your wife the other. Just rotate the knob up to increase the time and down to decrease. The time will accelerate faster if you hold it for a moment, or go minute by minute if you click. All the dual-alarm clocks out there have too many buttons that make changing the wake up time a real choir. This single knob replaces 4 buttons: hour up, hour down, minute up, minute down.

And changing the current time is easy. It will do it for you.

The buzzer will start out beeping slowly, and accelerate in the frequency if you don't snooze it. Great way NOT to bother other people in the house.

I don't need it to play CD or have high fidelity sound. It's an alarm clock and it's good at being just that, an alarm clock.

Customer Review: Nearly Perfect Alarm Clock
Summary: 5 Stars

I can't imagine a better alarm clock. The dual alarm feature is useful even if only used by 1 person - weekends are different you know. The automatic time set feature is nice - but does preclude fooling yourself by setting the time forward for extra minutes. The alarm set function is the best I've experienced. You can toggle forward or back to the precise time desired without having to go around again. The buzzer alarm is ideal to me. A gentle wake-up is all many people will need - but it does get more forceful if the alarm is unanswered. If a person needs a strong wake-up they can use the wake to music setting and turn up the volume.

I can imagine a better radio. It would be nice to have a better speaker and tuner. But how many people will listen to this radio much? It is fully adequate for what it's designed for. It gives a decent mono sound in the FM mode. There's not much reason to pay more for an alarm clock.

Customer Review: Can't beat for price
Summary: 5 Stars

For $14, you just can't beat this one. The two alarms adjust forward and backwards easily. Backwards is a huge advantage! Seeing the alarm time when the alarm is on seems to require you to turn the alarm off, then on, to have it shown.

he "auto-set" is not synched to WWV/WWVH, but uses a long-lasting battery and works well enough. You can set "override" the internal clock to sync so that, for example, your 6:01 alarm means that the news on NPR starts moments after the clock radio kicks on. For me, functional enough and doesn't have some of the mis-setting problems like the inexpensive "atomic-set" clocks.

It switched over to PDT to PST properly for me this year, a nice surprise.

The numbers are very readable without my glasses. The brightness control seems to work well. The alarm is progressive in insistence, but "low" and "high" are just about the same level.

Customer Review: Great Deal
Summary: 5 Stars

Clear display without being too bright.

The two alarms is fantastic, and I love the backwards/forwards knob to set them individually. This was really easy to use right out of the box.

I recently lose power for a day in San Francisco due to crazy storms, and loved that this just picked the time right back up without needing to be reset. I can afford a lot more for a clock, but didn't bother and see no need. A digital radio tuner would be nice, but I really don't miss it. I've got the radio on my favorite station, and the reception is good - I haven't had to change it or adjust.

No complaints. Better than most clock radios available in the hotels I've stayed at, and I tend to stay in the nicer-ish places when I travel on business.

Easy and fully functional. I'd buy it again for every bedroom in the house. You can't go wrong.

Customer Review: Great, reliable alarm clock
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this clock to replace our old Sony Dream Machine alarm clock, which lasted almost 20 years. After all those years of use, the only problem with it was that the button used to advance the alarm began to respond erratically. I love the improvements in this new model. It is easy and intuitive to set up and use. The display is large and the brightness can be adjusted. I am nearsighted and it used to be that if I awoke in the night and wondered what time it was, I would have to get out of bed to look at the clock. No longer! The alarm volume is not a problem for me, as I read in some other reviews. I also think the dual alarm feature is great -- something we didn't have in our older model. The styling is nice and I think it could fit in almost any room decor. I hope this new one lasts as long as our old one. Maybe I'll write an updated review in another 20 years!!
