Customer Review: The point of big snooze small on/off
Summary: 5 Stars

One of the reviewers writes

Like almost every other alarm clock in existence, the button to turn off the alarm is hard to find, while the snooze button is the size of Jupiter. If you enlarge the image of the clock on this site, you'll see three buttons on the lower right below the display. The one in the MIDDLE is the one that turns off the alarm. Yeah, good luck finding that button in the dark at 6:30am. I guess the engineers who build these things don't actually USE alarm clocks, or else they wouldn't do STUPID things like this.

If you stop and think about this, this is purposeful. If you hit the snooze, you are either getting up, or getting up in 9mins. If the on/off was huge and you hit it just to "shut it up" u will not get that 9min timer where it goes off again and you are definitely going to oversleep. So the snooze button is something like a safety. So if you get up at first buzz, you hit the snooze and a few seconds/minutes later, you actually turn it off when you can see a few feet. (I know how it is when ur just getting up.)

I hope this explains the reason why all alarm clocks follow this design.

Customer Review: Sony ICF-C492 AM-FM Clock Radio
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought two of these and the large display and the adjustable intensity of the display light is what sold me on this model. I installed a single 9-volt battery for loss-of-power backup and set the clocks...they both work perfectly. When I set the display low enough to not bother me at night it is still very readable at night because of the large numbers but it is too dim to see well in daylight. That is not important to me but may be a consideration if you needed to see your bedside clocks both night and day and wanted them dim at night. I leave mine on about the 1/3 of full-intensity setting - it is a dial so I am just estimating. The display can be made very bright or very dim and anywhere in between. You would think someone would put a light sensing auto dimmer on an alarm clock - in general the state of clock radio technology (except for some iPOD addons) seems stuck somewhere in the 70's. The thin wire antenna for the radio was no problem to tuck behind the night table and my cats can't see it there or get to it.

Customer Review: A bargain and easy to read without my glasses
Summary: 5 Stars

I paid $19.95 for this clock-radio. I was looking for a clock with numbers large enough that I could read the time from up to eight feet way without my glasses. I really did not care about the radio or the alarm. I have a clock-radio-IPod player on my nightstand, but I was looking for something I could read when I was facing way from the nightstand.

There are periods (often for weeks or even months) when I can only comfortably sleep on one side or the other. During those periods, just rolling over to check the time is sometimes enough to leave me wide awake and unable to get back to sleep for an hour or longer. I needed a way to check the time without moving very much. I tried projection clocks, but the projected images were too small or too dim for me to read without my glasses.

This is has turned out to be a good solution for me. the numbers are large enough and bright enough for me to read even through it is sitting on a bookshelf several feet from my bed.

Customer Review: Great dimmer, easy to set, always works
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the fourth alarm clock I have tried in the last year, and this one is a keeper! I wanted a dual alarm that I could set very quiet since I am a light sleeper. I was shocked that two brand new alarm clocks I bought simply did not work right. I would set the alarm and it would not go off. This one works every time.

The dimmer on the display is great. I had one alarm clock that I had to drape with a cloth because it was so bright. That pretty much defeats the purpose. There's no need for a drop cloth with this clock.

The one little complaint that I have is that the dual alarm has one alarm on music and one alarm on buzzer. You can not have two different alarm settings that both play music.

This isn't as bad as I thought, though, because the alarm time is very easy to chage, yet you can't accidentally change it by bumping into it.

The radio reception is even good.

Customer Review: They make a good one then discontinue it!
Summary: 5 Stars

I searched on line for a, dimmable alarm clock radio because I was tired of lifting the cardboard that covers the display of my old one to read the time. With all the new LED technology some bright idiot designers decided that a bedroom alarm clock radio had to be able to light up the nearest international airport landing strip. DA! some people like it dark when they sleep. This unit although it appears to be discontinued works great for what I wanted, an alarm with radio and a dimmable display with a thumb wheel on the side, all the way down to dark. So if you like to see the time without seeing it from three fields away or with sunglasses in the night I would suggest that this mfg. read my comment and take note for the dimmable features that people like!
