Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony ICF-CD73V Shower CD Player/Clock Radio (White)Customer Review: Well worth the cost. Summary: 5 Stars
This shower cd player/radio may be a little more expensive than most, but it is well worth the cost. I was rather amazed at the sound quality of this little thing. It produces highs and lows that can rival some much larger boom-boxes. It is also very solidly constructed, and seems to be designed with water-resistance in mind. Before this player, I purchased a much cheaper (jWin brand) radio that produced horrible, tinny sound, and that stopped working (due to water exposure, I assume) after a single solitary day. This Sony player, however, shows no signs of stopping.
I do have two gripes: 1. This player doesn't seem to have anti-skip (probably to save cost and battery consumption), so if you happen to bump it into the wall slightly, it will skip. 2. It doesn't play mp3-CDs. One would think that any CD player these days would have the ability to play mp3s, but it almost seems like all manufacturers are moving away from the mp3-CD player concept. I suppose when everybody has an iPod, mp3-CD capability becomes a less appealing selling point...
All-in-all, if you're looking for a GOOD shower cd player/radio, look no further. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with this.
Customer Review: You get what you pay for . . . . . Summary: 5 Stars
I was a little hesitant on buying this product because it was kind of pricey. But I just threw away a shower radio that I paid about $30 for that I just could not stand anymore. It did work for a while, but before I knew it, I wasn't getting hardly any radio stations, and if you tried to turn up the volume, you got this horrid screeching scratchy sound and you couldn't make it lower.
But getting back to this product, I knew that I wanted a cd player this time around and decided to do a little research before buying impulsively. Even though I saw cd/radios that were less expensive, this one got the best reviews. When I wiggle around the wire antenna that is attached, I can get just about all of the stations that I listen to - minus the screeching scratching sound. And the sound quality is great, I can hear it even when I'm in another room.
I haven't tried any of the special features yet, or read the manual, but I
was able to figure out how to set the time and preset my favorite radio stations for now. The buttons to play the radio/cd and turn off are pretty straight forward and clearly displayed.
Customer Review: These are Very Very Nice Units! Summary: 5 Stars
Mine just came the other day. Programming channel presets is a snap, it appears very well built, and the sound is really good. With the TV station audio ability I can listen to the morning news and with the weather channels I can go right to weather for the commute. The CD player is a nice touch too. Radio reception is great, and the digital tuner locks right on. I think at the price these are an excellent value and you get Sony quality.
One thing to be careful of is that these can be run from a 6-volt wall AC adapter. Never run it from wall power when in the shower or bath. Most wall adapters (none is included) will isolate you from the AC line, and the controls on the unit are all plastic. But if the power recepticle gets wet while the unit is being powered by an AC wall adapter, you do have the possibility for injury or possibly death. Just the design of these units, with it being promoted as a shower radio, encourages using it in wet environments. If you decide to get a wall adapter, make absolutely sure it is fully isolated.
Customer Review: Plenty Loud..even at the beach. Summary: 5 Stars
I use this radio on my kayak and in the shower with my ipod and it does not crank, but suprised me. I put my ipod with itrip on in my bedroom and the radio picks it up in my shower. On my kayak, i put my ipod in a dry box and throw the radio on my deck and paddle away, not worried by the occasional wayward swell like the last one that put my altec lansing and 60 gb ipod out of commision in davy jones locker (*anyone diving off Descanso Beach in Catalina email if you happen to see it) The digital tuner hones right in on my ipod station... and it comes in crystal. The other cool thing is i noticed at the beach it is better than my sony mp3 cd boombox because the buttons are made so no sand can get under your buttons...like the sand that ruined that radio. Lastly the darn thing plays for two full days of paddling...showering...or lounging....my altec lansing ipod portable stereo died in likie 2.5 hours cause it runs 4aa, the sony shower radio uses 4 durable c batteries. Pick one up for sure,
Customer Review: I love the sound and no sound. Summary: 5 Stars
My expectation was high for this was SONY. I used a similar CD player in shower before but quick battery consumption dissatisfied me. Since I received it as a gift in May 2007, I have used it 2-3 times a week not when taking a shower, but a long bath. I usually listen to CD not radio, but batteries remain so far.
The quality of the sound is something you notice. First of all, there is 'no sound' in the very beginning of activating CD.. Even nice CD players sometimes makes some electronic sound of circulating CD before it actually plays music, but this one not. It quietly starts and you can listen to classical music with small volume (this is precious if you know what I mean). I don't use it to hang in shower or even let it wet. This is still electricity and I don't want any damage on it by water, so I place it on a toilet tank. I'm just satisfied with one comapct CD player in the bathroom which has good sound quality. You don't need an instruction for it. Very intuitive.
