I'm a big user of Amazon reviews prior to making purchases, but frequently there are only one or two people who have reviewed the product I'm considering. When I purchased this radio seven weeks ago, I was swayed by the unheard of 180-some reviewers recommending it. I've been nothing but pleased. This radio is easily the best I've tried -- and I've been through several. The suction cup for the antennae is a grea feature and allows for me to enjoy static-free National Public Radio which usually is plagued by a lot of interference in the tightly packed low "90's" of the FM spectrum. Tuner sensitivity seems similar to Tivoli radios (non-shower) that I own, which is pretty impressive. Sound is excellent for a shower-type unit. Features are easy to use and intuitive -- I only wish it was easier to select the auto shut-off timer "by feel" as the unit is positioned where I can't see the top-mounted controls. Concerns about water-proofness (which oddly isn't guaranteed by Sony) seem unfounded. My unit gets water dripping on the top and into the speaker-grill area every day and has had no problems. Battery life is fantastic: I'm on the same set after approx 13 hours of intermittent use. Highly recommended.Customer Review: A GREAT shower radio

I really like my Sony ICF-S79V shower radio because it has marvelous reception! The sound is clear and there's no static. I like that the on/off and tuning buttons are on the top of the radio because it's easy to reach up a push them rather than fiddle with buttons on the front of the radio. One push and I'm on my favorite music station, and then with another push I can get the latest traffic from the "all news" station. I don't use the television sound band but I tried it and the reception is just as clear as the other bands. The weather radio is a nice touch and I have found it handy when there is stormy weather coming. Also, the large volume knob makes it easy to adjust the volume with soapy hands especially when you need to know if the phone is ringing or if there's someone at the front door.
The only thing wrong with this radio is that it is not water proof, just water resistant. That sounds kind of weird for a "SHOWER RADIO" but that's what the instructions say. The radio should not be exposed to direct water spray. Luckily for me I have a shelf in my shower that doesn't get sprayed with water and that's where I have the radio. I would definitely buy this radio again.

My husband bought me one of these about two years ago. Now that we have two bathrooms, though, I take it with me when I switch to the other bath to do my hair while he showers. So I had to buy him his own radio. We both love this radio.
Reception is great. The antenna wire that you can move to where you need it is a real plus for FM reception. The AM reception is also good, this radio has less static than any other in the house for AM. It is great for listening to sports play-by-play because you can HEAR it (no static) and you can carry the radio everywhere with the carry-cord. This started out as my shower radio and has become my overall portable radio. I can move around the house doing anything and easily carry this by the cord and hear the program I am listening to without blasting the volume to disturb others. The batteries do last a long time, months and months with everyday use. I like having the preset buttons, but also love the scrolling tuner that does not skip from signal to signal, but goes through the dial so you can zero in on a station that is barely there. This is an overall handy, easy to use, simple radio that just does what it is supposed to do very well.

I'm on my second one - had my first one for a year before my sister swiped it and took it back to Alabama with her. I guess she must have liked it a lot too. After about a week without it I had to buy another. I do not use it in the shower but I do keep it in the bathroom on top of the toilet tank. Wow is it great. One push on top and the radio is on. You don't even need to have your glasses on because the button is big. Push another button and you set a timer for it to go off after 15 or 30 minutes so you don't have to remember to go back in and turn it off. I'm listening to the morning news while I brush my teeth and dry my hair and put makeup on, and I can put it on a classical music station for a soak in the tub after work. It's not too big, the controls are simple and intuitive, and it looks nice. The battery lasted in the first one for the whole year before my sister took it - it's probably still running at her house on the same battery. I looked at a lot of radios before I found this one - I wanted waterproof, not too big, no cord - there just isn't anything close. Highly recommended if you'd like a radio in the bathroom.
