I purchased this shower radio a month or so ago and I love it. It was very easy to program the presets; it is small enough to move around the bathroom from shower to sink and it is easy to make channel selections. When you press the band selection button it beeps when you cycle back to the AM channels so you know where you are very quickly.
I am blind and have found this device very friendly. I purchased a more expensive shower radio a year ago. It sounded better, but it had a lot of buttons and was not worth the extra cost. I'm not looking for a full-blown stereo system in the shower. I am looking for something I can take in the shower and listen to the news, TV, or local sports shows.
So the radio is a winner. I put rechargeable batteries in when I got the radio and they have been working for over a month. I used the radio every morning and on and off during the weekends.
I would recommend this for anyone looking for a functional shower radio at a good price.

If you've ever bought a shower radio (I've bought & tried several), you know that they all s*#k. This is the first one that DOESN'T s*#k. Not the slightest bit. This one is fantastic.It's got a digital tuner - no dealing with tiny tuning knobs and guessing if you're on the right station. It's got an accurate digital clock. It's got weather band. It's got tv audio (channels 2 thru 13). It's got an antenna wire with a suction cup at the end so you can actually better tune in your station. All the function buttons are simple & waterproofed. The sound is great - for a mono shower radio. It's got a heavy duty string to hang it on your shower head, or just set it on any flat surface - it's solid and will stay still. And to top it off, 3 C batteries in this thing last forever - instead of a single 9 volt or a few AA's that other shower radios usually have. Sony did good here.
Just buy it. Then buy another whenever you can't think of a good gift to get someone - people LOVE getting this as a gift. I've given several.

Having tried almost ever shower radio on the market -- I was close to giving up until I saw this one. Granted it costs more than the "average" shower radios -- but there is reason. It works! You also save tons of money on batteries as it just doesn't eat them like the others. My husband and I both use this in the a.m. and we each have different radio stations we like. We have not had trouble pre-setting the channels or switching back and forth between them. Seems like the more negative reviews of this product are due to placement of the radio. Keep it out of direct waterfalls; maybe get a small shower shelf to place it where you can easily see and use the controls? Lastly, the timer-off button is my favorite. I set it for 20 mins; giving me time to shower and finish up in the bathroom in the a.m. before heading to work. You don't have to worry about getting back in the wet shower area to turn it off. Give this a try - treat it well and you'll be happy !Customer Review: Great product

I bought this radio several months ago. It is still running on the same batteries I put in when I got it. My daughter and I use it every time we get in the shower, when I'm cleaning the bathroom, or when our electricity goes out. It's great in the shower because it stands up the moisture, it's easy to operate, compact. I put it right in the shower on the towel rack where it doesn't get direct water but it gets plenty of steam. Even with that, it still works great. I especially like the fact that I can get all 4 of the local TV channels in my area and that comes in handy when you live in tornado alley like we do and the power goes off every so often. I really miss it when I go out of town without it because I've really gotten used to having my music or news when I'm showering. The sound isn't the greatest but it's good enough for the shower and for the size. After researching shower radios and looking at ones that cost almost twice as much, I decided on the Sony ICF-S79V and I am impressed with the following points:
1. Great fit and finish.
2. Not too big. Seems smaller out of the box than photos on Internet suggest. This is good for cluttered showers.
3. Easy-to-use controls for clock, tuning and presets. I didn't even need to consult the manual.
4. Excellent sensitivity for AM (internal ferrite antenna) and FM (a pull-out wire from the battery compartment).
5. Full sound to overcome shower noise.
6. Sony's decision to require 3 C batteries insures long-lasting life between battery changes.
So far I have not found any weaknesses with the radio. Sony has found a niche in their shower radio. I give it the fullest recommendation, especially for the 45-dollar price (and free shipping no less) I found on Amazon.
