I seen the Sony ICF38 on my favorite online merchant Amazon and decided to purchase it considering it was a Sony and all the great reviews.
The radio has good weight compared to the other radios I have in the same price range and is very well made and with good design. The reception is excellent for a radio in this price range and the sound is also better than all the other radios I have that are comparable.
If you're looking for a good quality basic radio, in which is hard to find anymore with good reception and good sound for the home or office, look no further. The Sony ICF38 will fill the bill... Best radio out of the six I have in this price range.

Gotta love Sony! Exactly what I wanted to take fishing or the park/beach to listen to the phillies or some music. Solid little radio that has good reception and is easy to tune in. This is a VERY basic radio. If you are looking for a top notch sound system or a high definition whatever this aint it. This is a solid old school little radio that seems like it will take a beating and give you years and years of durable reliable use. It takes 4 AA batterys and has an electrical cord permanatly attached which I really like. No lost cords to look for. Its analog so you dont chew through batterys. Its perfect for what I want it for. My husband had despaired of finding a basic AM/FM radio to use in his office, his workshop, and out in the yard. So it needed to run on batteries and AC (if possible). Based on the reviews I read I knew this had decent sound, had a self-contained AC cord, and good reception/station locating. He has not had to run it on batteries yet, but he is very happy with the size (not too big, but not too small)--it doesn't get in his way and it doesn't get covered up easily either. He is a little hard of hearing (having flown loud airplanes in the Air Force), but has no problems hearing this radio without using headphone.Customer Review: sony icf38

Excellent product in nice little package. Took this on vacation recently to the Delaware beaches and reception was incredible, picked up Phila. stations S. Jersey stations and Md. stations as well as it tuned in the local De.stations. Locks in on the signal without having to screw around with the dial. Product lived up to my expetations. Will be ordering another real soon since plain old am/fm radios are getting hard to find. Not only is this portable due to it's size, but it also runs off double a batteries so it keeps the weight down for added portability. This is an excellent radio for the purposes I purchased it for which are listening in my camping popup trailer and when traveling (hotel rooms). The analog tuner works very well for receiving weak FM signals (have not used the AM side yet). Sound quality is fine for a radio for these applications. The interface is very simple (retro-70's!) and works. The tone switch works well for cutting excessive high-end.
I marked reliability and battery life as "4" because I have not really had it long enough to evaluate those features yet.
Overall an excellent little radio.
