The Sony ICF38 is a simple, sturdy, AM/FM radio. I get excellent reception in an area where most radios are weak. There is no interference from other electronics in the house, which is the reason I have been searching for a better quality radio. The price is a bit higher than I had expected, but the quality and performance is there, so I have no complaints. What good is a bargain priced radio that you can't use?
I'm thoroughly pleased. The Sony reputation is well deserved.

We recently purchased this radio for an elderly relative. It is of high quality, with easy to use controls and has a large enough speaker to create good sound. It will be relied upon for emergencies, so the 3 AA batteries, which are to provide 80 hours of operating time are a great plus. After all it is a Sony and appears to be well worth and more the price. If you are looking for a good, non sophisticated radio, both battery and plug in..can't beat it for the $$.Customer Review: Sony Portable AM/FM radio

I needed a good, reliable, and convenient-to-handle radio that could be used AC or battery. This radio is in my personal "Emergency Kit", and will be used in the event of emergency situations (hurricanes, earthquakes, power-outages, etc.). The size and simplicity of this radio make it perfect for this purpose. I have tested it on several of the local stations and find that the reception is excellent. Great radio for theprice. Am/fm is excellent.I would call this the "mini super radio" The audio from this radio rivals largerradios in my opinion.The sound from the 3.5 inch speaker sounds great.And the tone control switch makesa big difference. I have had radios with this feature that seemed useless, andmade no difference. The highs and lows are apparent. Only one thing i dislikeabout it. I wanted a Simple AM radio to listen to the Phillies baseball games. The Sony ICF38 is PERFECT. Small, well designed, handle is great, battery life amazing, AM sound is strong & clear, tuning is tight. This radio is Utilitarian, cheap & performs. Previously I'd purchased the RCA RP7887 from Amazon for 2x the price of this Sony radio & wasn't satisfied with the RCA radio. For half the price the Sony ICF38 is 10x better than the RCA.
