Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony ICFCDK50 Under Cabinet Kitchen CD Clock RadioCustomer Review: Great decision to purchase Summary: 5 Stars
I needed a kitchen radio for my wife to enjoy rather than blast music from another room. The radio works wonderfully and was very easy to set up. It easily fits under the cabinet, which I was not sure about because of its width. I thought it might have to go under the corner cabinet, but did not. We tried it in three different spots until we thought we had the best reception and it has performed flawlessly. Our house is in a wooded area and my XM radio can be a challenge sometimes, so I was concerned about clear reception. It also has a good build in antenna as we pick up metro DC, MD, and PA stations easily, and we are in the a wooded area. The single CD player is a nice perk for those days you want to select your music. I haven't used the remote, which is very petite and needs two AAA batteries to function, but it has a magnet and attaches to the side of the refrigerator. It also has a little tray attached to the side and the option to hook up your MP3 player or some small portable music source, sweet! My biggest concern was drilling four holes in my beautiful cabinets for the screws to attach, but they have a paper with the exact outline of the player and you lay it on the shelf, pencil the four holes and drill down, simple for this old guy! The price was about $10-15 cheaper than going the Best Buy or other type store route. I would recommend it, I love ours.
Customer Review: Excellent (added advice) Summary: 5 Stars
I first want to say that I ordered this item from Amazon on a Wed. and received it that Fri. (Shocked at the FAST shipping) I had been wanting an under the cabinet cd player, and could not find one in our local stores. I came here to read reviews on the best one to buy and where to order. I chose this one even though some said they had some reception issues and also that the MP3 had poor volume. A little advise to those concerned about these things.
Reception - You must not plug the player into a socket that is already carrying a heavy load. (Fridge, Stove Microwave, ECT) We have ours plugged into an outlet with a coffee maker and we get everything our area offers on FM and AM.
MP3 - I had very poor volume when I first plugged my MP3 into the unit. I was upset because I love the music that I have on it. I realized that you have to use the MP3 players buttons instead of the CD players buttons for skipping songs and what not, so I decided to try controlling the volume with the MP3 player, and VIOLA I can hear my MP3 player all through the house. Just remember to turn your MP3 player all the way up after you plug it into the unit.
I am very happy with this player. I have friends asking where I got it and how can they get one. They are also surprised at how little I paid.
Customer Review: Better than it's 3-cd changer brother Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the Sony 3-cd changer version of this and had to return it because the changer didn't work out of the box. We ended up with this one and we love it. It is much nicer, has presets that the other one did not and is much slimmer to top it off.
Don't waster your money if you are thinking of the 3 cd changer version. It's just a moving part that can break. It makes the unit almost twice as thick and takes away your preset buttons. Everything else is the same. The sound is just as good on this unit even though the speakers face down. They actually are slightly angled in the unit to project outward.
This is an excellent unit. I love the fact that it also has a timer as well. When you are making a big meal it's nice to have an extra timer.
Another feature you won't know until you unbox both is that the cable for the MP3 player on this unit is built in and stores away nicely, the other unit with the 3 cd changer plugs into the side and sticks outward. Also the power cord sticks out the back on the 3 cd changer forcing you to keep it about an inch away from the wall which then protrudes out from the cabinet. This unit has it inset just enough to allow you to flush mount the unit against the wall for maximum space.
Hope this helps.
Customer Review: Sony Under Cabinet Radio and CD Player Summary: 5 Stars
Fantastic sound!!! Easy to install. Radio gets great reception on both AM and FM bands. I have it mounted about two inches from a 24" long undercabinet fluorecent light and have not observed/heard any interference. Prior to permanent mounting, I did hold radio up near the light to insure that light would not interfere with reception, based on other reviews I read on product stating that this may be an issue. Old bulbs, bad ballasts, loose connections can cause electrical noise/interference as can motors ( fans, furnace blower ).
Radio and CD sound is very crisp and clear and bass boost adds to the depth of sound for music.
Because the four metal mounting screws round heads protrude above the surface of the bottom inside of shelf by about one eighth of an inch, there is a possibility for damage to any delicate glasses etc. If this is an issue for you, I recommend gluing a piece of 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch plywood under the cabinet an inch or so larger than the mounting screw area. You can then counter sink the cabinet's bottom shelf so that the round screw heads will be below the surface of the bottom shelf.
Customer Review: Love this machine! Summary: 5 Stars
I wanted an under the cabinet mount radio/CD player for my newly remodeled kitchen to eliminate the need for a stereo any where else on the first floor of my house. I looked at the reviews for this model and a few others and determined this looked the best route for the cost and it really was. My husband was most impressed with how easily it installed. We love all the features. We have played our MP3 players through it, we've played various CDs that I haven't gotten to enjoy in quite a while because there was no convenient place for my big old stereo, even before the remodel. The settings for programming the radio stations is wonderful. My husband listens to ESPN radio (AM) in the morning before he leaves for work and then switches it over to FM music for my daughter and I with just a push or two of a button. The sound quality is just as good as my old stereo. My most favorite extra though is the kitchen timer. Love it! I use it now instead of the one on the stove or microwave because it is just the turn of a dial instead of pushing buttons. Overall, it is a truly worthwhile purchase.
