Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony ICFCDK50 Under Cabinet Kitchen CD Clock RadioCustomer Review: Nice compact unit! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm very pleased with this Sony unit! I had purchased a similar "refurbished" Sony unit from Overstock.com about a year ago - same brand, but different model with radio & CD features only - however, the CD portion died after eight or nine months. So, I did some homework and ended up with this NEW model and thus far I am very please. I use both the radio and CD equally often. This model has the added bonus of the IPod adapter which I only just figured out how to use within the last two days and it's Wonderful! There's a little tray that comes with the unit that hangs from pegs off of the side to hold your IPod ... I'm loving that feature now. I'm not very "tech saavy" but was able to figure out the controls for everything easily. My son installed the unit for me with little trouble (I was hoping he could use the holes from the old unit, but had to drill new ones and the template worked fine - though I noticed others had complained about the layout ...) All in all, I'd recommend this unit for the convenience of having all three audio options at your fingertips.
Customer Review: Love it! Summary: 5 Stars
I just installed this unit in my kitchen and I love it! The sound is great and reception is way better than the boom box I used to have. One other benefit that doesn't show in any of the pictures is that it comes with a little side attachment that is optional. It's for holding an MP3 player on the side where the play would plug in.
I love that the remote has a magnet on the back. Also, I like that it has an internal battery (that can be replaced when it wears out) so that it keeps time when the power goes out.
If there is one drawback that I have found it's that it doesn't have a feature for scanning for radio channels. It just has up and down tune buttons. AM reception isn't so great, but I haven't found any unit that picks up AM well. The remote does not include the batters. No big deal.
Installation was easy with the template provided. Also, the system for adjusting for the depth under the cabinet is super easy to us and will make this unit fit perfectly under any cabinet.
Customer Review: Sony just does it Right! Summary: 5 Stars
I had read many reviews on this item before purchasing it. Many folks had difficulty installing it and even gave it bad rating becasue of that. I think there should be an aptitude test and whatever the persons rating it on basic installs should determine whther or not they get to leave feedback in that area! Can you say "Cake Install". It even comes with a pre-fabricated blueprint with holes in it for correctly drilling the holes. Tape the diagram to the cabinet, drill and then you are basically done. The reception is a little discouraging, but it picks up excellent some daysd and not so good on others. Though the receiver might not work the best, i don't think it's all the receivers fault. We listen to CD's as much as anything so it works perfect. Sound, Style and appeal are top of the charts. I wanted to get an "under the cabinet DVD/CD player", then I realized I had a Mac and a PC laptop for that. So I chose the CD player and I couldn't have made a better choice. Extrememly satisfied!
Customer Review: Looks Great and has Wonderful quality sound Summary: 5 Stars
So far everyone that has seen it says "Is that ever nice". I respond with wait til you hear the sound. So I told my neighbor I got it on the internet and she was interested in hearing more.
So far I am really pleased with this refurbished Sony Unit I got off The Amazon site. It comes with 4 small legs so that it can be set either flush with the undercabinet or if it needs more room then you use the legs to bring the unit down farther. It all depends on the structure of your cabinets. Mine just happened to fit flush which is just the way I was hoping to install it.
For those of you who have never purchased refurbished products before don't be afraid of them. I have purchased them on a regular basis and so far I haven't gotten a bad one yet. In fact I believe they are gone over better than the new ones from the factory. The sound and reception are wonderful. The only problem I have found is the battery for the clock had to be replaced.
Customer Review: Sleak, modern kitchen radio Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this radio/cd player for my mom. She was still using a cassette player/radio to listen to music, so this was a major upgrade for her. Once we opened the box, the instructions were very easy. They provided a template to show where to drill in the cabinet to mount the screws. It did take two people, one holding the paper in place and the other with the drill to get it just right. There are adjustable spacers to give space between the cabinet and the cd/radio player. It took about 10 minutes overall to have it mounted and it turned out great. The only drawback is there is no resting place for the remote. We lay it on the ipod rest on the side but it would be nice to have it mounted somewhere so it doesnt get lost. Otherwise its a great cd player. The radio doesnt pick up stations we could with an antenna, but if it can pick it up, it sounds great. Worth paying for a Sony rather than the other lesser known brands.
