I purchased this shower radio about 6 years ago after reading great reviews. I'm happy that it's still available through Amazon.
This radio has stood the test of time. It's been dropped 1,000 times, been in wet conditions, and after 6 years still delivers the same amazing sound that people in the other reviews have been talking about.
The only negative (Which isn't the radio or Sony's fault) is that the radio has 3 bands, AM FM and TV. The TV does not work now since the cable networks switched to digital. So no more listening to Monday night football in the shower, but who cares. Speaking of NFL, this thing has better reception than my larger radios and I end up using this shower radio to pick up games that i don't get on TV. The digital display makes it so quick to find the channel you're looking for.
Why look elsewhere? I've had half a dozen shower radios and have seen others in action. This radio WAS the best, still IS the best, and will always BE the best.

I'm a shower radio-aholic. I'm always looking for one slightly (or light years) better. Bought one of these about 1.5 yrs ago. This one is the best I've found in 20 years of searching and probably a dozen tried. I'm about to buy my second one for another bathroom. Sound is very good, it has digital tuning and presets, and, very importantly, the clock displays while the radio is on. Isn't it pain to only see which band you're listening to, and not know what time it is without turning it off? No problem with this one. Battery life is good. The only slight drawback is that it's a little bulky/heavy and really should sit on a horizontal surface of some kind, although it does have a hanging string so it can hang from a fairly sturdy hook of some kind, and I think it came with a suction cup holder. But since the radio is a bit heavy you gotta have perfect suction surface or it crashes to the shower floor. Oh, did I mention it take take falls from 5 feet and not be damaged?Customer Review: Simply perfect

I very rarely write reviews but I love this radio so much I felt inspired. (Actually I own the S79V, but it seems to be identical to this one.) It is simply the perfect shower radio. Reception is excellent and better than some of the more expensive radios in my house. It has a clever suction cup aerial that sticks to shower tile well. The controls are simple and I particularly like the timer function, so I don't need to worry about turning it off. It goes forever on a set of batteries. I also like that this isn't equipped with a CD player, which would add bulk for a questionable extra function.
The white plastic has yellowed over time (four years?), and the top control panel membrane has deteriorated slightly, but it's still going strong. I purchased a replacement just to have a spare handy should I need one and find that Sony has stopped making these gems.

I've been using it for about a month now. So far, I'm very satisfied with it. The reception is very good, which is an issue where I live (in the middle of nowhere). It also has a timer on it which I like. I use it when I'm cleaning the shower. I apply the shower cleaner and set the timer for 3 minutes for the cleaner to do its job. I'm sure the ladies would like that feature when coloring their hair :). I also like the auto turn off function. Sometimes I forget to turn the radio off, but by setting it to 45 minutes, it allows me plenty of time. And since it runs on batteries, it saves the batteries if I forget to manually turn it off. The sound is acceptable for a smaller 1 speaker radio. The speaker is nice & big. So I have no trouble now hearing the radio while in the shower. Great little radio. I fell into the trap of buying an AM/FM radio, iPod player combo when what I really needed was strong FM reception. This little radio gets as good a signal as any radio I have in the house. The sound is great for the shower. The only two small issues that keep this radio from being a 6 star, is that the controls would be much better in the front where you can see them. The way I have the radio, I would have to be 6 foot 10 to see the controls. Also, a little more thought should go into how it fits in the shower. There is a robe to hang it from, but that lets the radio dangle. I did get one suction cup (I believe there is a spot for two and I just didn't get the second) but they are not the best. Neither is a show stopper, and I would buy this radio again 99.9 percent of the time. I'm sure that .1 percent is out there, just haven't found it.
