Customer Review: Excellent and Cheap!
Summary: 5 Stars

Hi-
These Wireless Headphones are a definite BUY....the Sony MDR-IF240RK Wireless Headphone System ...
Great for Kids or to keep the spouse happy!

Well... I have to say that I was really surprised to find such quality at such a low price. Infrared transmitter works well in line of sight or in the same small room (tested to 15 feet at least) without sound dropouts with headturns. Light weight but good enough, and portable enough for hotel or travel. Sound is not audiophile, but great for late night TV viewing...and even better for my 6 year old nephew to use without tearing out my insane audiophile gear monster racks. So for Spongebob or better, it is great. I do have an IR dolby 5.1 expensive Japanese version from a few years back, but it was $500, heavy...not too comfortable, and it sits in the garage!

Do not bother with any of the RF wireless headphones since they will be prone to interference...not with IR (limited range, line of sight...but with a TV or Computer who cares). I am sure that there are Audiophiles who will hate this, but at this price...who cares. BTW it does have both a mini-jack input for an ipod or other device and Lt/Rt standard RCA jack inputs which are almost everywhere. The Walwart transformer is smallish. The headphones are lightweight and fairly comfortable. They are cheap plastic and the kids may break them (consider wrapping some of the critical heaphone plastic in Saran-wrap with small strips of small bubble-wrap with cut-outs to protect against drops...I will). It takes a standard AAA battery and comes with a rechargeable AAA NiMH battery which has some easily copyed small squares of plastic to prevent dislodgement. You can easily use another AAA rechargable NiMH of your choice (Eneloop, high mAH level) even though they warm you not too.

Caution****DO NOT use anything other than a AAA NiMH ****in the headphone self-charger....even though it is a "trickle" charger your do not want a melt-down nor fire (so be careful with the kids...you may want to use that Saran-wrap idea to prevent them from putting in an Alkaline battery which may EXPLODE if charged!).

Hope this helps... and maintains peace with kids, spouse, hotel guests, etc......
Enjoy and take care!

-Paul

Great Buy!

Customer Review: Best for the price, and better than many pricier models
Summary: 5 Stars

First off, if you're sitting there wondering if you should buy these, do it! I recently had the infamous logitech bluetooth headphones that snap after a few uses, and they sure did. Now I have gotten a pair of these on the mega cheap, and its completely made my bedroom pc setup the best ever. I have my wireless keyboard mouse setup with these headphones so I can play COD on my 32" LCD from across the room on the couch..>
But enough about that.

Firstly these things are very comfortable. My ears arent sore or red or anything bad after using them for hours. They also havent caught my hair in the adjustable sides, a most unpleasant experience indeed. My only gripe is if you lean your head forward and face the floor a little you might find these fall off easily. This can be a hazard if you like to leave them on while you take a pee break during gaming. I have fast reflexes so these babies were unharmed.

The sound quality to me is very good. Im by no means an audiophile but I'm quite satisfied by them. Empty static is basically gone if you sit straight from the reciever. If you get off to the sides some you may notice a little fuzz but its only in dead silence. the slightest noise will cover any static you may hear. The downside is the odd football shape of the recievable area. If I go 8-10 feet to the right of the reciever its dead empty, no sound. However I have around 20 feet of love from directly in front. So if I want to put music on and lay on my bed, I have to turn the reciever so I can hear the music in my room.

The mechanics are well designed. The headset auto off's when you place it on the charger, This is great too. The chargeable battery gets 35 hours, not like you ever will need it. Then too you can pop a AAA battery in and get an advertised 60! The volume control is accurate and I find it easy to reach also. The dock has lights for indicating status, and looks nice too.

Basically I think this is the best buy among wireless headphones under $80-100 bucks. I've tried 80 dollar ones and found these nicer in lots of ways. Its not overly hardcore and doesnt cover your ear with an inflatable life raft, but its pretty great all around. The rechargeable factor is awesome and the setup was easy as could be. A+ Product by an A+ company.

Customer Review: Bought this IF headphone for a month now
Summary: 5 Stars

Sony MDR-IF240RK Wireless Headphone System

I bought it becuase it is cheap, 3rd SONY IF headphones for myself and i have tried several brands and other wireless technology before and I am stickign with IF and after 10 minutes researching. The only reason i need to get this becuase the old one's battery is dead.
I did tried to just order the specail Battery from SONY but it is not worth the wait, hassle and time.
And the new battery SONY sent me didnt last hald as long as the first one. it is understand-able since if they dont make the model no more, why would i expect to get a fresh battery for a 15 years old product.

There are only 3 , all form SONY and ibought the lightestest one.
I really want to know if i am willing to pay 3-4 times the price, do i get the 3-4 time sound quality back and i am pretty sure I did the right choice. I am fairly into Car stereo and I do have a high demand in nice/good sound quality. I saw those 299 or 300 big set of SONY IF headphone, I am not gonna wear such a big headphone and try to feel comfortable in my seat at home watching Movie and playing loud games on my 65" while my woman is trying to sleep. This 45 piece will just do the right job and it will last me a long time for sure.I know since i have used sony product for a long time. It does not comes in a big/heavy haedphone, not big box shape transmitter which only take more room(room is expensive if you have all consoles, 7.1 channel reciver) , and the most important is gettign the same 30mm size headphone for extra 250$.

If anyone who bought this SONY IF240 and have also tried other expensive model /different brand, please reply to share experience.

I highly recommend this product for games and movies, if u want perfect sound quality, throw in 10k to your car stereo, it will comes out better then you spending 100k at home.
This headphone is good enough for 99% population, not for DJs or those who is willing to spend more then 10k for a subwoofer.

Customer Review: Great item, poor tech service
Summary: 5 Stars

First let me say that I am sort of "of average ability" when it comes to hooking up electronic products. When I first received this item, I could not get it to work with the audio input jacks on my new TV. I tried the "headphone" jack on a smaller portable TV that I have and they worked fine, so I knew I was doing someting wrong. After plugging the receiver into several different television sets with no results, and re-reading the instruction manual, I felt at a loss. I got online and contacted Sony customer tech chat. The first tech was no help at all and made suggestions like "turning off" the internal audio component on my TV. Though I perused my TV's instruction manual, I could find no reference to this at all. He also suggested I buy another connector from Sony which would solve my problem. I explained that they seemed to work with the mono input, so I didn't think I needed another connector. No help here. I waited a few days and requested a another chat. This tech was equally incapable of helping me and also suggested that I purchase another connector. I finally became very frustrated and ended the chat. I called Amazon and got a rep there who went above and beyond trying to help me solve this issue, even though he did not have to. Kudos, Amazon! This rep could not help me either, so I finally called Sony's 800 number and got a rep who talked me through this issue. The problem I was having was quite simple (probably a cinch to anyone who is an electronic geek)in that I was plugging the red & white audio plugs into the "front" of my TV set where it shows "audio in". I needed to plug them into the back of the set where the audio jacks were labeled "audio out". So, dilemma resolved and the headphones work great. I think Sony's instruction manual could have been "clearer" about this simple issue for all of us who are electronically challenged. Also, Sony's online tech support was severely inadequate the two times that I tried to use it. 5 stars for the product 2 stars for Sony support.

Customer Review: Lightweight, Comfortable, Functional, and Cute
Summary: 5 Stars

I use them in a bedroom for TV, stereo, and PC; range has not been an issue at all. If you chiefly want range, buy RF (radio frequency) 'phones. I've owned these for a good three months with no more than the initial charge (using them an avg of 2hrs/wk)! I just lay them over the stand instead of in the upright charge position.

Sound quality is good; I notice no degradation, only the change in audio channel type. They are comfortable. I don't see a drawback to the top part resting on your head like normal 'phones do. The earpads are like a Walkman's, not the "plushy" kind that make your ears warm in a short time. Small and lightweight like Walkman 'phones, this item passes every test of functionality and looks good doing it!

...After 2 years of flawless performance, I must downgrade my rating to 4 STARS based on my experience. This is due to the lack of versatility of the headphones. Whether I have the volume cranked on the source (like you're supposed to) or lower it, I am suddenly getting a very disturbing hissing sound together with an excessively loud signal, even with the volume on the headphones at zero! This is happening whether I use my PC, stereo, or DVD player as the source. I'm guessing it has to do with my plugging it into a Belkin surge protector and using a Radio Shack adapter that somehow zapped the base. When I did that on one occasion, I suddenly got no signal to pass through even when I switched back to the Sony adapter. But then it came back to life when I plugged it into the wall outlet, only now it was permanently damaged. I recommend you learn from my mistake and buy a second unit for $40-$50 if you like the first and need another one for another sound source(s) and don't plug it into a Belkin surge protector (APC is fine). I just bought myself a new pair. If I notice any problems, I will post a new review.
