Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony MDR-IF240RK Wireless Headphone System

Customer Review: still good quality after 4 years of usage
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great product. 4 years ago, I saw a friend using it. I asked for the make /model then ordered mine.
Now after 4 years of usage, my observations:
. Reliable: Despite some normal wear n tear
(the volume button lost
some traction, the input jack needs wiggling to avoid a non-sweet spot).
But, the original rechargeable batteries still work like a champ!

. In terms of features: I like its lightweight. Not a burden on the head.
Fits snuggly to my head/ears. The tranmission is strong, wide angle;
sound quality is clear. It never runs out of juice on me while watching
TV. THe longest time I ever use was about 5 hrs continuously (Of Mice and Man, followed by Dr Zhivago).

. The price is very competitively in the sub-100 range

Rooms for improvement:
.when replacing the headphone back to its base, it
takes a snag to hit the correct contact points, or else the headset won't get charged.
While on base, the headset is easily knocked off the right position, hence losing ontact points, hence not getting charged.

. THe input jack going to audio source should be flat instead of vertical. Otherwise, it sticks out when being plugged to the front TV input.

. improve the contact between headset & base

. The base should have hooks/holes/provisions for mounting with screws

Anyway, I'm in the process of buying a second set now. I'm very happy with this product

Customer Review: Wireless Headphones for TV listening
Summary: 5 Stars

I needed some kind of headphone for listening to my TV while others were sleeping in nearby rooms. Due to hearing problems, I had to use a volume level which was bothersome to others.

Without my headphones, I was repeatedly getting up to walk closer to the TV to listen to a DVR replay because I was unable to understand what was said.

I am delighted with the price, performance and comfort of my Sony MDR-IF240RK headphones.

My only complaint concerns the Installation Instructions. For those who do purchase this Brand, I will tell you this: Plug the RED and WHITE leads into the TRANSMITTER and then Plug the single jack end into the RF Outlet on your TV. The RF Outlet on my TV is the bottom outlet on the lower right side in the REAR of the TV. Be sure to CHARGE the Transmitter for 24 hours before using.

I use the headphones in my bedroom which is 24 feet long and the transmitter is located just under the TV (which is mounted 6 feet high in the corner) within reach of an electrical outlet and within line-of-sight of my ears. These headphones do NOT work if I leave the room because they utilize Infrared Technology. This is OK for my needs.

I am sorry to get so involved in the Installation details but I think that is the most importanrt thing I can say.

I highly recommend the purchase of the Sony Headphones. No complaints on my part..... so far.

Customer Review: Pretty nifty gadget
Summary: 5 Stars

I was a bit worried about the audio connectors on my TV since it's about 10 years old but everything worked out well right from the installation. First of all the sound quality is very good and I walked around the entire bedroom (including turning around) and there was NO voice drop off or reduction in volume or sound quality.

The tricky part is knowing which TV audio output jacks to use. As expected, if I connected the gizmo to the head phone jack output, it worked fine but doing so shuts the main TV speaker off which meant that I would have to get out of bed and pull the plug to get sound back (she LOVES to have QVC on all night, sound very low...DON'T ask, I just live here ;-) ). So, I went to the back of the TV and plugged it into one of the RCA jack (the red and white connectors) audio outputs which does not shut the TV speakers off. Now, I can use the remote that came with the TV to shut the main TV speakers off and the gizmo continues to function perfectly and I can adjust the volume with either remote or the headphones (turning up the TV volume is much better than cranking the volume on the headphones).

So, now I can STAY all comfy in bed AND watch Ghost Hunters and Speed Channel to my heart's content and flip back to low volume QVC with the hosts who have mouths that seem to stretch from ear to ear. How DOES Lisa manage to smile and not have the top of her head fall off?

Customer Review: A great set!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased these not long ago despite some of the bad reviews about static & Humming. I haven't experienced any of the things that others have said. These headphones work great! The others are correct However, that you need to be in the line of site otherwise they will fade out. Other than that, they're a really good set for watching TV or listening to anything else you might want to listen to & not bother anyone. I can turn them up as loud as I want & there is no interference, no static & humming. Maybe if you have something running close to the unit, you might have a problem. I recharge the headset every day & I haven't had to replace the battery yet. These headphones give you really good sound & clarity. I think they're great! I also didn't like the flat open ear headphones so I purchased a pair of leather earcup cushions for the headset & WOW!!!! They fit great, feel great & they don't fall off my head. I didn't pay more than $10.00 dollars for the set of leather earcup cushions from plantronics. I don't understand why all the bad reviews? I purchased a different pair of wireless headphones & there was so much interference I couldn't hear anything. Everytime I moved my head the sound would go out & all I would get was a radio. Since I got these, I haven't had any problems with static or white noise. Stop giving these such bad reviews!!! Once again.. They work GREAT!!!!!!!!!

Customer Review: A great buy!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had these headphones for about a month now, and they have performed excellently throughout.

My previous set of wireless headphones required constant tuning and often lost the signal of the base station. These headphones, conversely, have a large range of reception and generate little static throughout that area. Charging is simple--simply place the headphones on the base station to recharge. While the included rechargeable battery supposedly has a 15-hour limit, I've yet to lose power--although I've never really put them to the test, as recharging is so simple that it becomes reflexive.
The battery can also be replaced by 60-hour AAA Bateries (not included).

Sound quality is good--not as crisp as some high-end pairs of headphones, but about as good as a pair of around-ear headphones and certainly as good as traditional PC speakers. While there is a faint hissing noise produced by the headsets, I didn't find it annoying or hindering in gaming, listening to music, or watching movies.

Bass is decent.

My only issue with the headphones is that they don't turn on instantly when returning from "standby" mode, which they enter after a few minutes without use. The delay is only a second or two, however, and not a major concern.

Otherwise, I wholeheartedly encourage the selection of these headphones.
