Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony MDR-NC6 Noise Canceling Headphones

Customer Review: An Excellent Pair Of Headphones, Very Low Price!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

The Sony MDR-NC6 Noise Cancelling Headphones are a very
well-built pair of headphones! They have a noise cancelling feature that works very well. They also do not have to be "conditioned" for months and months.
<Sound Quality>
5 Stars!!! Excellent!!! The Overall sound quality is very good.

5 Stars!!! Excellent!!!The bass was beating in my head like a tribal drum!!
<Treble>
4.5 Stars!! Very Good!! These heaphones have a very good range!!
<Comfort>
4.5 Stars!! Very comfortable!! The only reason I don't give them 5 Stars is because they do not have leather earpads. The foam, however does have extra padding, and I am not disapointed.
The 1 AAA battery compartment looks very uncomfortable but actually balances the headphones on your head and is not uncomfortable. The headband has no padding but is durable and, wierdly enough, comfortable. Overall vey comfortable.
<Noise Cancelling>
Ths is a cool feature which cancels out low frequency noise, and can be used wwhile playing music or, not,which is also known as passive mode which I use frequently. When I purchased these I was somewhat worried about the "white noise", which, is hardly audible or inaudible. They do cut out basicly all road noise, and make me want to get some sleep. I have yet to try them out on a plane, although I hear they work very well.
They don't cut out the high range noises such as younger brother/sister screaming, but seem to somewhat dampen it.
<Additional Features>
-Very nice drawstring carry bag
-Spin-swivel earcups - Very handy
-Airplane plug adapter
-Only 1 cord coming out of the earcups instead of 2
-Lightwieght
<Other Headphones>
The only other pair of headphone I would consider for around the $100 range are the Sony MDR-NC20. I read up alot on the
JVC HANC100 and finally came to the conclusion that it was just too much to pay for a pair of headphones that everyone says is too uncomfortable and such bad sound quality. If I had $300+ to spend on headphones I would buy the BOSE QC2, But I don't think I will ever be willing to spend that much on a pair of headphones.
<Where To Buy>
The cheapest place to buy these headphones is right here on Amazon.com, with the exception of maybe ebay if you can get a good price. But Basically the lowest price on the web is at amazon and eBay is $45 including shipping.
-I Would Definitely Buy These Headphones Again-

Customer Review: Great deal from amazon
Summary: 5 Stars

I wanted to upgrade my headphones and thought I would check out some with the noise canceling feature. Most of the headphones with this feature run at a much higher price and this pair started at around $100 when it first came out. Some headphones for example from Bose run for $300. I am sure that many from that price range would be very nice however this would be much to expensive for me. I have also researched these to see what the difference might be and found there were many of the same complaints. I believe that many of these can be explained easily this is for all the non tech people who would say oh noise canceling that means I wont hear anything else. this is not the case what it really means is that within a certain and specified frequency range of your hearing and only up to a specified noise level the headphones increase the volume of that frequency range in what you are listening to so that up to a certain noise level it is louder than the noise around you such as people talking and thus you hear the music not the other sound. there are many noises outside this range that is intended to be canceled and many things are louder as well for example someone screaming would deffinately be louder. Also since noise canceling adds to and does not decrease sound do not think these will protect your hearing while mowing or vacuuming. In fact you should probably be wearing earplugs when doing these things.You will hear a slight hissing when using the noise canceling feature but it is not very annoying and you get the benefit of not noticing much of the noise around you. I used them while flying and I could not hear the talking around me and the engine noise was dimmed quite a bit (on this flight I was even sitting abou two rows from the engine on the wing) also if you want to hear the flight attendant ask if you want something to drink don't close your eyes with the noise canceling on. To sum up these Sony headphones do exactly what the are really intended to they sound great with good bass and the noise canceling is a nice feature. The price I got them on amazon for was only $30 I just saw them yesterday for $50 at target so it seems the best price is here.

Customer Review: Sony MDR-NC6 Noise Cancelling Headphones
Summary: 5 Stars

After recently purchasing a portable DVD player, I immediately realized that I needed to find a set of noise cancelling headphones to make my movie watching experiences more tolerable. I looked around at different products and finally decided to give the Sony MDR-NC6 headphones a try.

When they arrived, I inserted a AAA battery and turned them on, just to see just how much they would reduce the ambient noise in my kitchen. My wife was running the washing machine, which makes a low rumbling noise. I had never really paid much attention to how much noise the washer made, but when I turned on the power to the headphones, it went completely away. I let my wife thry them and her first comment was "Did the washer stop running"? Now, they don't work this dramatic on every background noise, but they do make a significant difference in reducing the noise. Low frequencies seem to be most noticeablly reduced.

The headphones are reasonablly comfortable, but I did have to place the headband a little further back on my head, than I was usually accustomed to, in order to make them fit comfortably.

The headphones fold flat and store in a small pouch/bag that comes with them.

The audio quality/response seemed quite good, and bass response was better than I anticipated. The highs were crisp and clear. I realize audio quality is quite subjective, and what may sound good to one person, might not to another. Then there's the issue with what you are using for your audio source. My inexpensive portable DVD player did sound much better with the NC6 headphones than with set I was initially using.

I have always been pleased with Sony products and think price vs performance on these headphones was quite good.

All-in-all, I am quite pleased with MDR-NC6 headphones.

Customer Review: Great head phones (esp. for plane trips) for the price
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought these for flying so the only time I ever use them is for plane trips. In general my opinion is that Sony products are overpriced but for $32.99 these headphones were a great deal, especially since I didn't have to pay tax and shipping. I see a lot of reviews saying that they don't cancel out all the noise but that's actually a good thing. They're not supposed to cancel out all noise, just constant low frequency background white noise like freeway traffic, subway/train noise, or jet engines. This way I don't hear the jet engines as much but am still be able to hear flight crew announcements or hold a conversation with the person next to me. There's still some higher frequency jet engine noise that makes it through but it's nothing compared to what you get without them. Sometimes I just turn on the noise cancelling feature without plugging it into anything on long flights so I can get some sleep.

As many other reviewers have noted they do start to pinch your ears after an hour of wearing them constantly but a quick 5 minute break without them solves the problem. Until I got these it was nearly impossible for me to listen to music or watch a movie on my laptop on plane flights without turning up to the sound to such high levels that I was afraid of damaging my eardrums. It's nice that in the newer versions the 2nd jack (for airplane use) folds away so you can't lose it like in the older version that I have. Why waste $3-6 per flight to rent a flimsy disposable headset from the airlines when you don't have to. The hissing noise that some customers complain of, trust me, you won't be able to hear it on a plane.

For the $32.99 I paid for these they were a steal. Not all of us can afford the $300 Bose version. And some that do have better things to spend the remaining $276.01 on.

Customer Review: Great headphones for the price...
Summary: 5 Stars

The PRICE of these headphones are definitely worth it on Amazon.com (about $30.00). At the department stores (Target, Circuit City, Best Buy, etc) these headphones go in the $50 to 60$ dollar range, and at that price these headphones aren't quite worth it.

The OVERALL QUALITY of these headphones is nice. It's very, very light so don't let its looks fool you. At first you're almost disappointed by the lack of weight these headphones have but in the end they're easy to cary around and wear. They are a bit tight after awhile, but all headphones basically are when you wear them hours on end. The battery pack wasn't an issue in terms of annoyance for me as it was for some other people.

The SOUND QUALITY of these headphones is wonderful. Listening to a CD I've heard about a hundred times before is almost like hearing it for the first time with these headphones as I am able to hear different more subtle instruments and nuances that I wasn't able to hear before with my old headphones. The sound quality is definitely the qualifier for this set (I'm not comparing these to Bose or other high end sets in terms of sound quality but it IS great quality).

The NOISE-CANCELLING feature of this set is pretty good. I don't use it that often but it does get rid of the more ambient noises (the TV in the other room, cars passing by, etc). What it basically does, I think, is amplifies the volume up more so you do hear less. There is a slight hissing noise, but you can only really notice it in the dead noise between songs.

OVERALL these headphones reproduce good quality music at a reasonable Amazon.com price while looking stylish and staying light.
