Customer Review: Surprisingly good headphones, noise-cancellation works!

First, to answer to critics' reviews I'd like to say that one shouldn't expect total quiet from the noise cancellation feature. The way how cancellation works -- by creating counter- noise sound for certain range of frequencies-- works great against street, plane type of noise.
Though I'm not Sony's fan, I was pleased with sound quality and quieting I enjoyed in noisy flight. I can actually "hear" how noise-cancellation kicks-in when you turn switch on: noises fade, really amazing!
I paid ~$[..] for these headphones. Only problem is somewhat stiff band, but this is an amazing replacement for your walkman/mp3 headphones. They flatten and fit well in my laptop pocket.
Ran 4 hours on a new AAA cell and didn't need to replace battery it yet. Given the price --- 5-star!

I was looking for a less expensive option than a $300 Active Noice Cancelling set. This works perfectly. Previously using a decent plain open air set, I could not hear the words on DVD's while on a plane unless I pushed the set hard against my ears. With these, I don't have that problem anymore. They are not designed to eliminate ALL background noise, so don't expect them to do that. I'd say about half the noise level of not wearing them, but that is all I need to be able to hear words clearly on DVD. On one flight when I sat in the back of the plane (right next to the engines), I left them on (but not plugged in to anything) just for the noise reduction.
The hiss everyone is talking about is minimal, and the background noise is significantly eliminated vs. not using these headphones.

I am hard on headphones, so I tend not to buy expensive models. I got these on the cheap as a result of coupons, rebates, etc a few months back. They are perfect for me. They are comfortable, they sound fantastic with my ipod, and have much better sound fidelity than similar low-end noise cancelling headphones such as the Kensington model. As far as the noise-cancelling affect, well, I guess you get what you pay for. On a plane, I'd say they reduce about 50% of the ambient noise, which actually makes a huge difference. Make sure to bring a spare battery for a long trip though! After I lost power I could really tell the difference and suffered for 4 hours without the noise cancelling feature.Customer Review: EXCELLENT! Well worth the money!!

I recently purchased these headphones and have used them quite often. I even use them just in my apartment! I took them on a recent trip to NYC and used them in the airport to drain out the low frequency noise in the airports and on the planes. It is just amazing how they work! I have always been a huge fan of Sony and this product just goes to show that Sony is the best out there!!
The only thing I didn't like was that after a few hours of having them on they kind of hurt my ears. They just press a little to hard against your head. But that is a minor detail for the excellent product!!!
Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend these headphones to anyone!!

These sound great! even my best friend who is an audio snob agreed that these sounded very nice. They too did a pretty good job of getting rid of the air and engine noise. (airplane)
Warm on the ears as some complained? yes a little, but what do you expect when you have something covering your ears. Overall comfort is fine.
Battery compartment being on the head band posed no problem to me or anyone else that tried out my heaphones. Going on a long flight next week. I will only re review if I find something negative to report.
