Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony MDRNC7/BLK Noise Canceling On-Ear headphones (Black)Customer Review: Nice Entry-level Noise Canceling Phones Summary: 4 Stars
I bought these in desperation. Got locked out of my apartment for a few hours, and wanted to head to the beach and listen to music. Problem was, I didn't have headphones with me.
Stopping in at Radio Shack, these seemed like a decent value, so I figured I'd give them a shot. I paid $45. Seeing them here on Amazon for $32, I would not hesitate to recommend them to someone looking for an entry-level noise canceling set.
Good
- Good sound. Even powered off, sound is decent. Turning on the power really cuts out street noise and lets you feel the bass.
- Nice design. They are big, but not overly bulky or awkward looking
- Runs on just one AAA battery. Battery life is great, provided you remember to turn it off. I can usually go several weeks on a charge
- Folds up for easy transport/storage
Bad
- Periodic Interference, specifically from power lines. Not the best for walking/jogging if you live in an urban area.
- No hard case
I should note on the interference issue that you can easily eliminate that but just turning off the power, which magically turns them in to regular headphones. However, it should be noted the interference can be quite annoying when it hits. Think cell phone near computer speakers.
Overall I've been happy with the purchase, and uses these every day on the bus. It's great to be able to listen to a podcast without the street noise and horns. If you're looking for noise canceling phones and can't go over $50, these are a great choice.
Customer Review: Amazing quality, still hear slight hiss in the background..... Summary: 4 Stars
These headsets are one of the most comfortable I've bought. I had the previous MDR-NC6 and they were excellent 'phones but then my girlfriend got a hold of them and absolutely loved them so I was again in the market. I read the reviews of this model so I bought them. Just for some background, I produce my own music and use my desktop extensively for listening to music and watching movies, plus I like to listen to my zune on the go. By far the sound quality is outstanding. The bass is appropriate and the mid and high are so clear. I like to place little sound effects, almost whispers in my music and even when I listen to the song on the zune I can hear every sample and faintness. Its breathtaking. One nuisance is this slight hiss in the background. From what I read from Sony, MDRNC7 reduced the noise cancellation by some percentage but I can still here. Its not as noticeable as the NC6's but still for me as a amateur audiophile it bothers me. But the feel of the soft vinyl and very pleasant pressure from the headset, it makes up for it. I truly encourage any DJ's and composers to try these headphones if your on a budget. They have a swivel motion so you can hear the music from your setup as you hear it through your desktop monitors. Big thumbs up to Sony!!!!
Customer Review: Great for the price Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased these without first reading the Amazon reviews and was concerned once I had read them that the headphones would be worthless. I recently tried them out on two cross country flights using five different airplanes. My conclusion is that they do, indeed, work on reducing the constant rumbling background noise but only reduce it by about one third. If you push them hard against your ears they will cancel another third but, of course, this is not practical. Part of the reason that they do do not block out more noise is because the earcups rest on the ears, they do not surround the ears. For this reason they are also uncomfortable if you wear glasses as they push the ears into the glasses' sidepieces. On one flight my row mate had a set of expensive Bose noise canceling headphones with ear cushions that surround the ears and he let me try them. I found that the noise cancelling was far superior but that there was a constant, noticeable, white noise hiss that was as irritating as the remaining noise from the Sony. The smaller earcups on the Sony also make it easier to pack. I only listened to the in-flight channels so cannot comment on sound quality.
Customer Review: I like them, overall! Summary: 4 Stars
I was one of the uninformed people that thought that it would cut out a large chunk of all noise not just the low hums and engine noise so at first I was slightly disapointed since I never fly and usually never drive long distances. But over all they are very comfortable I wore them yesterday for 8 or more hours with no discomfort at all, by far the most comfortable of any other headset that I have had. regardless of the other reviews of people griping about them.
Pros: it does do a good job canceling out low hums and machine noise or driving noise. Very comfortable, when they are switched on they sound good.
Cons: if they are switched off they sound horrible like a 5 dollar set of earbuds or worse. For decent music you have to have it on and it takes a battery.
Overall I will use these headset when studying or traveling and use others earbuds during time of listening around the house. for what they are I like them, they do have there drawbacks but I am satisfied with my purchase.
P.S. I would have given it a 3.5 I just rounded it to a 4 giving them the benefit of the doubt.
Customer Review: Great sound, folds very compact Summary: 4 Stars
I thought that these headphones delivered great sound and were really comfortable. And Amazon's price was better than what I found at my local warehouse discount club store. The design is everything though. They fold neatly and compactly into a little pouch which comes with the headphones and are designed so that they adjust to fit easily over many different sized people without fiddling with the band. My husband who has a huge skull and I can share the headphones without adjusting the band every time.
And the funniest thing about the design is that it hugs your ear pretty well that ambient noises are well muffled even without turning on the noise canceling capability. But the same ear pads which are great at doing this also tend to get a bit sweaty when I'm using them to listen to music and exercising on the treadmill (I know, I should use ear buds, but they always fall out). The only other thing is that I wish the cable was maybe 6 inches longer so that I don't have to take them off when I drop a pencil under the desk and have to go hunting for it.
