Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony MZNH600D Hi-MD MiniDisc WalkmanCustomer Review: Nice entry level model, but why so few selections now for a high end portable MD player? Summary: 5 Stars
Back in January, I purchased an Nomad 40GB Jukebox mp3 player and really love it, I've had no problems with it and the software is simple as the abc's. I laugh when people write about how bad the software is. A first grader could figure it out.
As such, as much as I love the mp3 player, it is rather large and awkward to carry around. So for me, it makes more sense to use it as a desktop stereo attached to speakers.
So, I wanted to find something small, lightweight, and relatively inexpensive. My partner had purchased a different inexpensive model of the Sony Minidisc player so I thought I'd give it a shot.
I purchased the MZ-NH600D back in May. It came in a sealed package with all the accessories, including an armband. I also shelled out $25 for an extended warranty - I believe it's a four year warranty. Can't beat that.
So, now I want more. This little thing is good for...say the gym, or the beach. But I want to upgrade and get something of better quality for the car.
This is where I'm at a loss now. Appears that the MZ-NH1 was released and only stayed on the market for maybe....three and a half seconds.
The new top of the line model is ugly. It's black plastic which means you will be able to see every fingerprint on it. Nice was the magnesium casing. What happened? Too expensive for Sony?
The new models look cheap and there is not a good variety. I like the MZ-NH600D, it works like a charm, but it feels too disposable. I don't even see better quality HI-MD players offered overseas where they eat up the minidisc market much more than the U.S.
I don't need a silly camera in my MD player, especially if the photos are no better than that of a top of the line cell phone camera.
Hoping to see a top of the line model in magnesium casing in the near future. As for the MZ-NH600D, it truly is a gem. And the 3.1 Sonic software again, is as easy as ABC. I'm not sure why people have such a problem with the software. Import and transfer. The sound quality is superb, much crisper than the MP3 files on my mp3 player, I mean, not a HUGE difference but enough if you're paying close attention.
The greatest plus with this little gizmo gadget as mentioned before is the battery life. UNBELIEVABLE. If you have rechargeable batteries, you're set. I have been playing the MD player all day and it's been going about four days on one battery. So then, I charge that battery and slip a charged on in the gadget. Brilliant.
So, on a scale from 1-5 for a bottom end minidisc player, it truly does get a 5. You can't beat the cost, sound quality, and battery life.
