Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony Micro Vault Tiny 2 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive with Virtual Expander USM2GH/T2

Customer Review: SUPER SONY
Summary: 5 Stars

As the editorial review says, Sony is always at the forefront of technology from the start, and this drive is no different. It was actually purchased "accidentally" when I couldn't find the typical drive the office ordered, and no one seemed to like it, so I ended up using it and love it.

It does quite well in terms of use under pressure. Internally, the memory isn't great for multiple file rapid downloads right to the drive (like a Flash video or MP3), but if you save to a hard disk and transfer, I find it works better. There were a few times I was afraid Windows "killed" it, but no, it is quite hardy.

The compression software is quite nice, but I wish it would automatically decompress files the minute you remove them from the drive, or at least offer the option to DE-compress all at once, since you can compress all at once. I do a lot of transfers of files from desktop to desktop to laptop to Flash and use these drives to transport files until they can be properly backed up. They're great, and you can't beat the size. They're a little tricky in terms of figuring out what side is "up", but aside from that, I have no problem. I would recommend getting MORE.

If Sony had a security feature added like the Sandisk Cruzer Micro drives, then we'd really be cooking.

The prices for this technology are getting cheaper by the day as memory becomes cheaper to create. I don't feel like I am "shorted" in the memory department by having Sony's software on the drive, because it's like a CD or DVD where it's not "600MB", or whatever, it's 580 MB + the amount of room to hard code on the item the information needed to write. Would it be nice if it were 2GB PLUS their software? Sure would, but for the (in this drive) .22 MB, I'm not that concerned.

Like any other Flash drive, though, it shouldn't be considered for long-term storage. Use a portable HD or a CD/DVD for that. These devices are designed for transport.

Additionally, have carried them through the airport, and while still having issues trusting the x-ray not to mess these drives up, the metal detectors cause no problems for those of us that travel.

All in all, two thumbs up.
