This is not a knock off brand of a battery for this camera. It has the Sony name on it so it is the same one that you would get if you bought it from Sony. The battery last a long time and have not had it fail me yet or run out during a shoot. This is well worth the money and I will be buying more from here if I need anymore. A definite must for any digital camera...what is worse than being caught with a dead battery and wanting to take lots more photos? It is definitely worth the piece of mind that you can keep shooting and checking them out on the lcd without being worried that the battery will finish before you do. Bought one of these as a backup to the battery in my A700. Two weeks ago, I shot over 1400 photos on one battery.
I'm outdoors a lot, so I need to have a backup, just in case...and I do. Possibly might pick up another one for the long camping trips with no outlet around to recharge the battery.

I have the original and one extra for my backup. Even as a high end user I have never had to change out the battery during a shoot. I change them out after each shoot, recharging the used one and using the other to keep them rotated. I have had them for many months and have seen no loss in power. This is a brand new original Sony battery in a Sony package.
I don't know of any knock offs that work and wouldn't be very inclined to buy one anyway - especially since all the new Sony DSLRs have excellent battery life.
