This monitor has worked great for us with only one complaint -- lots of interference. The monitor is super sensitive(I often turn it up just to hear my daughter breathing) and can pick up noises even if placed on the dresser more than a foot away from the crib. I have also enjoyed the ability to recharge the portable part. It is great to just plug it in and still use it while charging. My only complaint is unexplained interference -- lots of beeps or static. Yes, the phone or my husband's optical mouse will affect it but other times it just beeps inexplicably. Save your money and try another monitor. I have had this monitor since the birth of my child in 2004. It worked fine (not great) for almost a year. Then the out of range alarm beeps all times even if I was in the next room. I tried changing the channels several times and nothing works. It drives me crazy the speaker makes a clicking sound along with the beeping of the out of range indicator. I am in the process of looking for another monitor before I loose my mind. I read that The First Years Safe & Sound 3808, The First Years Crisp & Clear Plus 3813B and Evenflo Constant Care 3000 rated really well by Consumers.

This is an excellent baby monitor. Others we tried had static in the background nonstop - very annoying. This monitor has a clever setting that basically keeps the system silent until a discernable noise or voice is heard and then it tunes in instantly. No need to pay extra for 27 channels, 9 are plenty and recharable AA batteries are a great match for this unit. Overall, outstanding product from Sony.Customer Review: Hate this monitor

If there's one thing a parent of an infant does not want, it's to be woken up by your monitor beeping when your baby is peacefully sleeping. Our baby was in the next room, and the "out of range" alarm" went off three nights in a row, like an alarm clock, between 4-5 am. Other nights it didn't do it, but even one night of getting woken up w/o cause was enough to make me want to throw this out of the window. Luckily, my husband reminded me that if I did that, I couldn't return it... I would never recommend this monitor because of the ridiculous beeping.Customer Review: GREAT Monitor!

We bought this monitor for our newborns. It works great! There is never any static and the sound quailty is crystal clear. We bought the Fisher Price Lights and Sounds monitor prior to this one and it was full of static and different converstations from people in the neighborhood. I recommend the Sony monitor to anyone.
