Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony NTM-900 900MHz BabyCall System!Customer Review: All of the quality, most of the features Summary: 5 Stars
I looked at several baby monitors and bought three of them! Having used all three of those, this Sony system by far the best. This system has five features that should be standard for any system you consider. These include:1) As many channels as you can afford. This system comes with 9 channels with enough variation that you SHOULD be able to get a clear signal. I even tested this one in my 9-floor office building and it worked fine, with multiple wireless connections that could have interfered (its hard to get an FM radio station in my office!). For those in apartments, Sony has a system that comes with 27 channels to consider for $10 more (comes with re-charge capabilities too). 2) Ambient filter. Most monitors come with an always-on feature that picks up every sound in and out of your baby's nursery. This system allows you to choose a sound-activated selection that filters out the ambient noise (fans, humidifiers, etc) and only registers when there is something to hear. For those of us that a little more paranoid, you can choose NOT to use the filter and hear everything...CHOICES ARE GREAT! 3) Proximity alarm. Ever worry that your monitor isn't working or that you are out of range? This system constantly updates the monitor so that if you are out of range, run out of batteries, or just forget to turn on the baby-side monitor, it lets you know. No more asking, "Did I remember to turn it on?" 4) Water-resistant. This is just logical for a $40 investment. 5) Curved, damage resistant antennae. The antennae on this is so durable, your dog could use it as a chew toy (and may try!). Comparison to other models: I have also used the Fisher Price Calming Vibrations, which is not worth the cardboard box it came in. It constantly makes noise and is static-y, like most all of the Fisher Price models. It went back to the store very quickly. Finally, I also have the Safety 1st Crystal Clear monitor , which is inexpensive but works great if you are in single home that isn't too big (about a 400' range). But it doesn't have the ambient filter like this one. I use the Sony as my primary monitor and the Safety 1st as my travel-monitor, since its so small and light. Originally, I wanted to get one with a two-way feature so that we could talk back to the baby, but then I thought...uh...what exactly would I say...be right there? Bottom line, this is the best model for your money. And anyway, would you buy a cordless phone from a baby-item manufacturer? Then why buy a cordless monitor from one?
