I was so sick of monitors with all the static. I also used to be forced to deal with a monitor that was so noisy & couldn't sleep with it turned up, but when I turned it down I was afraid I wouldn't hear my baby. (I am a deep sleeper.) With this monitor I don't have to turn the volume down when I am trying to watch tv or sleeping...there simply is no static! The background noise filter works great since my baby's room is facing the parking lot. I don't understand why some people have had such bad experiences with this monitor. My reciever beeps ocasonally like it is out of range & all I do is turn it a little or change the channel if it persists. I live in an apartment building so we had to play around with the channels. At first I could pick up my neighbor's conversations. Now all is fine. To me, this is the best monitor on the market. Not too expensive & great quality. Water resistant too! My son is 5 months old and I have been thru so many monitors. The first one (Fisher Price Soothing Dreams) worked fine when he first came home but after a few weeks the thing would crackel, pop and had constant loud grey noise.I then tried the Safety 1st Piece of mind which turned out to be even worse. Every time our phone rang I had to go turn it off and back on just to get it to stop buzzing at me.
Finally I decided to try this on because of it being a Sony. So far I am very pleased. It has beeped once because I had the channels set incorrectly but once I fixed it no problems at all. I love the voice activation part because I don't have to hear everything going on outside of the room (you can pick up our doors opening and closing when turned on regularly). I do wish it had a second reciver but I can get over that since this one is so light weight and easy to take with you.

I purchased this monitor after a disastrous bout with the Peace of Mind monitor by First Years, which had constant interference and static problems. I wanted a product with more channels to choose from, to hopefully minimize the static. Well, this product did the trick! It is sensitive, and picks up the baby's sounds on a very low volume, but somehow miraculously does not pick up other background noise in or near the nursery hardly at all! The range is great - I can go to every corner of our yard, outside, and still hear the nursery crystal clear. And, if there is interference, which is VERY rare, it doesn't produce static - it just emits a soft "beep beep" for a few seconds. It's easy to use, easy to change the channels, and not big or bulky. We are thrilled with this monitor, and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to buy a new monitor!Customer Review: LOVE IT!

We initially bought a Fisher-Price monitor and it stopped working after 10 minutes of use. We were able to return it to Babies R Us despite not having the packaging, but we did have the receipt. What does Fisher-Price know about audio electronics?? Nothing. They are great for toys though!
We ended up buying this Sony monitor (we felt more confident that Sony would be better for audio electronics) and love it!
We have the monitor in the baby's room about 3 feet from his crib and can hear him rustling his blanket! It is ultra-sensitive, and great!
One word of caution - we have the receiver end in our bedroom across the hallway. When we have our bedroom door open and the baby's door open, we get instant feedback, and the volume on the receiver is not even very loud. This should NOT discourage you from buying this monitor, though.

I'm a first time mom, that red every little review before going out there and buying the things for my baby. I had that promotional free monitor that BRU offers when you purchase 70 dollars or more, and I got this one as a gift from my registry.
This is BY FAR the best one out there! There's another Sony one, 10 dollars more, but the only difference is the rechargeble batteries and 27 (!!!)channels ( this one has 9 ) so unless you leave on a 3 story house, by an airport and cell phone towers, this one would be the best option.
Sony is a VERY reliable brand, and I'm so pleased with the clearness, pure sound of this monitor. I gave my free one away and kept this one! The best monitor you can get for your money!
Don't get carried away by the few bad reviews. This is a great product, worth every penny!
