After reading reviews of lots of monitors, I chose this one despite having to wait for it (they seem to be delivered in small shipments, but Amazon sent me an email when they were available). I'm really glad I waited! This monitor really lives up to it's billing. I originally thought I wanted the 27-channel version, but had no trouble finding an interference-free channel on this 9 channel model. I love the voice activation mode (I for one do not want to hear every breath all the time, but I do want to hear if my son starts to fuss). It is also great that the receiver beeps when not receiving the transmitter -- like when you stray too far from the house, or (oops) forget to turn on the transmitter in the baby's room. I just got this monitor after our old one died and it's terrific. My husband and I didn't think it was really working because our last monitor had so much static -- we thought that was how monitors were supposed to sound! But this one is great, totally quiet and we can even hear our baby breathing. It also has a lot of channels, so if you can hear your neighbors, you can adjust it until you find a clear channel. Also, you don't have to worry about your cell phone, cordless phone and satelite dish interfering with it (like other models). We also love the rechargeable batteries and the belt clip seems great for working outside. It seems like Sony has thought of everything with this monitor. We have had this monitor since my daughter was 2. She is now 4, and we still use it, especially when she's having "quiet time" in her room. Don't spend your money on anything else, buy this one first. We went through 5 different monitors (total approximately $300) and those were extremely staticy and very poor reception (we can hear our neighbor's conversation on their cell phones). Then finally bought this Sony Baby Monitor. It is very quiet, portable and the battery last about average time. It also comes w/ a plug which saves the battery's lifetime. I also take this monitor outside without any problems on the range as some people say. My husband and I highly recommend this!Customer Review: grrreat monitor

I bought this monitor because of the good reviews and I am very pleased with it. My baby is only 10 days old and we've only been home for six days so I haven't used it alot, but I am pleased with the use I have gotten out of it. The clarity is very good and the microphone very sensitive. The baby cries or wimpers are alot louder in the monitor than they are in the bedroom. If I could though, I would change the fact that it does pick up background noise, example, a fan running in the background even when it is on voice activate. Besides that, its wonderful and I highly recommend this product, to me it was a little costlier than other models but you get what you pay for!Customer Review: Better Than the Rest!

After trying the Fisher Price Sound & Lights monitor, I was so frustrated to find that all I could hear was the static & screeching, and NOT my son's cries. I brought it back, and had an even harder time finding another monitor. Luckily, I decided to spend the extra $10 for the Sony Baby Call Nursery Monitor, and it is well worth it! I can hear the baby clearly from anywhere inside of our house (especially if he is upstairs and we are downstairs) Even better, the monitor is long range, we can even us it outside of the house doing yard work or other things. I would recommend this to everyone! It is worth it..just like having your baby next to you, even when he is not.
