Customer Review: A very able GPS
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought the Sony NV-U44 a few days ago on an impulse buy, as it was on sale at a local electronics store for $138, regular $250. I had thought about buying a GPS before, but I decided I needed one now because my son just began driving and he is not very good at navigating his way around! So after buying it I looked around and heard about the mediocrity of sony's other GPS units and I was a little worried about my purchase. I am happy to say however that this unit does not suffer from any of the issues that the bigger Sony GPSs face. It's touchscreen is snappy with almost instant loading of screens, the POIs are numerous and I haven't gone somewhere yet that wasn't in the GPS. It finds the satellites almost exactly after you turn it on, and route calculations are very swift. If it has to recalculate the route it is almost instantaneous and it is amazing! Also, the searching of addresses is very quick and when I went into the store to play with the other GPS units after I purchased this one I found none of the other GPSs I played with to be as responsive and quick as this one. I find that to get the best navigation you need to set the route mode to "shortest route" away from general and it is more consistent that way. I couldn't find any reviews of this GPS on the internet so I hope I helped, as if you are buying this unit you do not want to buy in the Dark! My only gripe is that the physical buttons are sometimes hard to press, but it is not like you will be pressing them very much, so it's something I don't mind really.

Customer Review: Whats not to love?!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had this product for over a year now - more like 18 months, and it has come to be a part of my purse!! It is small enough to be unobtrusive and versatile enough to use for both interstate and local route quest. The most beautiful thing about it for me, is that it does exactly what it was designed to do - take you from point A to point B without a lot of navigational jargon...Awesome! Now, I wonder how I ever got around without it...(kind of reminiscent of the cell phone wave huh!!!) One thing though, it is not for the town car or cab driver who is looking for an alternate, faster, less congested and sometimes obscure route 'cos it may not have that(though you can upload route to it online - don't ask me how though!). Having said that, I think that if you are concerned about safety issues as a lady or a guy in a strange neighborhood, this is the GPS for you because it only plots well established routes and all those shady back hoods are conveniently left out....wonder if that was on purpose...hhmmmmm.

Customer Review: It's much better than I expected, and I'm loving it.

I just got this Sony today for my husband, and it's way better than what I could have asked for. Its screen is clear and easy to read, its voice/direction is easy to understand. Its menu is easy to use, and the quality is really a "Sony" just like my other Sonys: TV and three digital cameras. Best of all, it plays my Sony memory stick photos like a digital photo frame, and that's the reason I had picked this Sony GPS in the first place. I am getting another one for myself........even though I don't really need a GPS to drive around town. It's worth every penny of it.

Customer Review: Great Deal!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I just bought this as my first gps and tried it immediately; I've noticed its solid construction and neat design, it was very accurate and easy to use. However, I had little difficulty downloading its firmware, but the tech at sony was very helpful and we did upgrade its software in just 15 minutes!

For $98 (including tax and 2 year no questions asked repair/replacement warranty) with features like: Text to speech, 3d maps, dual view, touchscreen and etc.. I would say its a great deal!!!

Customer Review: Suprised in a good way
Summary: 5 Stars

My Dual GPS bit the dust last night and I just relocated to the Twin Cities area so I needed something to find my way around. A quick trip to the Mall of America and I found the cheapest GPS around, the Sony NVU44. I took it home, opened it up, plugged it in and was floored with how quickly it found a signal. This has a ton of locations built in and it is incredibly responsive. The text to speech is nice as well. Excellent deal for $79 bucks.
