Has a mind of its own. Picks and chooses which source material it will record and which it won't.
The unit saw about half of the UNPROTECTED things I attempted to record as "copy protected", so it just did nothing with them.
It also had a great deal of trouble dealing with DVD-R disks - kept telling me that empty disks were full when the weren't.
I don't understand how a major manufacturer can put such a flawed machine on the market.
Don't waste your money.

We bought one, and liked it so much, we bought another. After just a month or two, they both started making noise from the DVD transport. Both sounded like the rotating parts were out of balance and something else was rattling as a result. I believe they both were slowly coming apart, as the sound first was intermittent, then steady, with increasing loudness.
Since the noise made them unusable, I am reluctant to give it even one star.

I bought this DVD - VCR deck last night at Costco, and burned a video to DVD. However, the DVD won't play on ANY other machines at all. It only plays on this deck.
After reading all these reviews, I realize that I'm not the only one who has been burned by this machine. Save yourself some frustration and stay away from this deck.

We purchased this unit from Costco and returned it two days later. The unit pauses intermittently and sometimes freezes altogether while playing DVD's. Never got a chance to try the recording features, but if the thing won't play DVD's who cares. Sounds like a number of others have experienced the same thing. I've owned this product for 3 months. It worked fine initially, now it rejects all DVD's. If I can get it to load a DVD, it freezes or stops automatically. Do not make the mistake I made by purchasing this item!
