Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony RDR-VX560 1080p Tunerless DVD Recorder/VHS Combo Player

Customer Review: Too Many Glitches!
Summary: 1 Stars

Please avoid this product! I bought it primarily so I could 1) copy over my old VHS tapes, and 2) be able to record from TV. The TV recording is fine, but the tape dubbing is terrible! Apparently the VHS head in the machine is low-quality, because each tape I played always has fuzzy sound and snowy artifact - just enough to distract from the video itself -- and it shows up on the dubbed DVD. At first I blamed the tapes, but I bought an LG and it plays and dubs the same VHS tapes beautifully. I initially took the Sony back to Best Buy thinking I had a lemon machine. Well, I'm now on my third of these "bricks", and I'm throwing it away because it is just garbage.

To top it off... about a third of my commercial DVD's freeze up after 20 min of playing. For the money, by either the LG or maybe a Toshiba (has good reviews).

Customer Review: very bad customer service from Sony
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this item as a gift in January but did not give it to the recipient until the middle of February. Since it was outside of Amazons window for returns I was forced to contact Sony since the item did not work. I asked for a refund or replacement for the item and was told that they could repair it or replace it with a refurbished unit. The unit that I bought was new, not refurbished! Due to my inconvenience and the fact that I paid over 200 dollars for a new item this was not acceptable to me. When I asked if there was someone else I could talk to I was told no one was available.
Needless to say I will not ever spend money on a Sony product again. This policy of theirs is totally ridiculous and I would think that good customer relations would warrant them offering a full refund or at least replacement with a new unit.

Customer Review: Avoid at all costs
Summary: 1 Stars

Save your money!!! If you buy this unit you might as well flush your money down the toilet. It will fail eventually. Had this unit for about 6 months and at first my only complaint was that it would load a DVD very slowly. Eventually I started getting the "freezing problems" others have complained about. Now the unit will not even load any DVDs. The drawer will continually open and not stay closed when trying to load any DVD. This is a piece of junk and Sony should be ashamed to have produced a product this bad. This hasn't been the first Sony DVD player that has failed me. As for me this is the last Sony product I ever intend to buy again. They seemed to have gone back to producing cheap products to appeal to the cost conscious person and forgot that they need to work also.

Customer Review: BAD PRODUCT - FREEZES DURING DVD PLAYBACK
Summary: 1 Stars

Unfortunately, I own two of thse units. They both have the same problem. The unit freezes while playing commercial DVDs that play perfectly on other players including other Sony models. Sony is aware of the problem with the 500 series (check the Sony website), AND SONY CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS SAID SONY DOES NOT HAVE A FIX. The reality is this: If you buy this unit, the Sony warrenty is WORTHLESS because they can not fix the unit and cannot offer any remedy. Hopefully you will discover this flaw in time to return it to the seller. The unit will play most commercial DVDs ok, but many commercial DVDs will fail 100% of the time even if you try a second copy.

Would I recommend this product to a friend?: No

Customer Review: DO NOT BUY TO THIS UNIT TO DUB VHS to DVD !!
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this recorder unit from a local and trusted electronics store after spotting it on sale. Dubbing old VHS recordings of my family to DVD media has been on my list of to do's for a long time. So for $100.00 it looked like a sparkling deal especially from a good name such as Sony.
BIG MISTAKE..

After hours of doodling around with spotty directions and failing to record/dub VHS to DVD Media, I gave up to contact Sony. I am still no where and no resolution in site.

Tonight I decided to check if others have had problems like this and found a great percentage at Amazon. I regret not checking here first. So if your considering this unit.. Reconsider Now..
