Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony RM-VL600 8-Device Universal Learning RemoteCustomer Review: Works great but caution with DVRs Summary: 5 Stars
Several years ago, I purchased another Sony remote that had a learning function on it. It worked quite well but was much more expensive than this one. Again I needed a new remote and found this one. Works just as well but for about half the cost.
The most important thing for me is that it was able to learn the functions of the new Comcast analog converter box. In Washington (and perhaps other parts of the country) Comcast made anyone who had basic cable but no digital cable box get an analog converter that came with its own remote. You cannot use your old remote and I was not able to find any codes to use with any universal remotes to work with this new box. This remote was able to learn both the TV and analog converter box functions so my remote works seamlessly.
However, if you have a DVR/Tivo or use ON DEMAND, this remote won't be as great. There are not nearly enough buttons to work with all the functions necessary to work these products. I would look elsewhere if this is your case.
But overall it is a fantastic remote at a very low and reasonable price. Check Ebay for lower prices.
Customer Review: Best Universal remote known to MAN or WOMAN Summary: 5 Stars
when I ordered this I accidentally ordered two.. well no big deal I'll just return the second one.. after setting up the first one there is NO way the second one is going back!!
I have a off brand DVD VCR combo recorder that wasn't listed in the book of codes..
guess what NO problem!!
set this remote to learn the other remote function.. hold that button down on the devices remote and bing!! done.. this remote now preforms that function on that device...
PLUS!!!
you can program SEVERAL devices under one device settings..
so the TV setting can control the TV
the DVD setting can control the DVD
but the AUX setting can be trained to control the TV your sound system and the cable box ALL under one device!!
you just have to remember what button does what
on mine under AUX I programed the volume controls to work the volume on my home theater system, the channel buttons control the channel on the cable box, and the STOP / PLAY buttons work on the DVD player!!
this is by far the easiest universal remote I have ever owned or had the PLEASURE of programing!!
Customer Review: Excellent Product - Suits my needs better than any other remote Summary: 5 Stars
I was looking for a remote control to use with a Sony Home Theather (it needs separate buttons for each input on the remote) and a very specific digital cable box decoder (Thomson DCI-1000). I realised there were no code-based remotes available for the cable box decoder and then went for a learning remote. I was in doubt between the Sony RM-AX1400 8-Device Home Theater Remote Control and this one. I ended buying both, the more sophisticaded AX1400 and this one VL600. The VL600 ended up being much more easy to use and program (the AX1400 program, which is required to its use is not compatible with 64 bit Operating System). This VL600 has got buttons for each input, it's very easy to program and could store all the cable box "learned" buttons with ease. And even some buttons on the TV which are specific and were not sufficient with the code I "taught" the remote. It has been fullfiling all my needs. I highly recommend. Excellent price, nice looking, good size and works like a charm.
Customer Review: Glad to find an upgrade to put in our other room Summary: 5 Stars
We got a Sony Learning Remote ten(? maybe eleven) years ago that was featured at Disney World in the Epcot Innovations Area. We had just bought it when we went there and noticed the Disney Cast Member's remote. We actually stayed behind to see out of curiosity if it was the same one we had just gotten.
We love the old remote and when we got yet another remote because of the converter box I had enough of all the remotes in our bedroom. Since we have odd brands that typically aren't in the remotes with codes I wanted another learning remote. I have never had a problem with programming either the old remote (10 yrs old) or this new one.
I even got one for my in-laws and programmed it for them because I get so frustrated when we go over there and try to let the little kids watch a movie. They have even more remotes than we do and they have duplicates so they could each turn up/down the sound and change the channel.
I LOVE THE ONE TOUCH MACROS!!!!!
That has ALWAYS been my favorite part of the remote we have had for 10 years!
Customer Review: Simply Awesome!! Summary: 5 Stars
This remote is truly amazing. After years of handling three and four remotes at a time, worrying about batteries, misplacing them I can finally say I've found a remote control that replaces the rest.
Even with so called universal remote controls I always had to go back to a device's original remote for certain functions. But the beauty of the RM-VL600 is that it can learn those functions with very simple programming steps. I only had to view the first two pages of the manual to get my remote up and running allowing me to control my Sony TV, DVD player, receiver and a Scientific Atlanta cable box and Echo Star SAT Dish. At long last one single remote DOES IT ALL!
As if that wasn't enough, you can program a 16 step sequences to each of the (4) four Macro buttons (or system control buttons). I was able to turn on and off my TV, receiver and SAT dish with the push of just one button. What really sweetens the whole deal is the price. Other learning remotes start around $80, but this one is under $25! Now that's just icing on the cake!!
