Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sony RM-VL600 8-Device Universal Learning Remote

Customer Review: Works as advertised!
Summary: 5 Stars

I just got a Vizio VX37L and bought a RCA DRC279 Upconverting DVD player to go along with it. The remote that came with my Comcast Motorola HD-DVR worked fine with the tv, but not with the dvd player nor with my Sherwood receiver (no Sherwood codes in the manual and code search was no help either). I almost bought one of those $100 Logitech remotes but decided to take a chance on something cheaper. After reading the positive reviews here I decided on this model.

All the positive reviews were right! It had the pre-programmed codes for the DVR and the Sherwood, but not for the the tv or the dvd player. No problem though because the learning feature allowed me to program them in without problem in under an hour. I was then able to easily set the remote to automatically turn everything on with the press of a button and change configurations just as easily.

For example, I can press one button to turn on the dvd player, open the tray, and switch to the proper audio/video inputs all at once. I press another button, and it all returns to the cable tv-watching configuration. Just awesome for a sub $20 remote! I went from 5 remotes to a single remote with this one. The nice big buttons are also a plus. You won't have any problems getting to the right button even holding it one-handed. And of course Amazon's price rocks. Even with shipping, I saved about $6. The price at brick and mortar stores here is about $25 plus tax. Highly recommended!

Customer Review: Versatile device, very nice.

Had previously owned a previous Sony Commander which was useful but not programmable, so when I bought a new Phillips DVD player that would not respond to standard code programming, I had to upgrade to this remote. This one rocks! What's the coolest about it is that when you have a device which will not respond to code programming (like my new DVD player), you can program the Commander to "copy" the functions of the other remote, so it will do exactly what the standard remote does that comes with the unit. Also, another very cool feature are the 4 programmable group function buttons at the bottom of the remote. You can program each one to turn on/off multiple units in your entertainment center. For example, if you want to watch satellite/cable TV, you can program button A to turn on/off your TV, stereo, and satellite/cable. Or, if you want to watch a DVD, you can program button B to turn on/off your TV, stereo, and DVD player, etc. Yet another feature is to program the Commander to integrate the audio, so that no matter which device button you've last pressed, using the volume up or down buttons will always raise or lower the volume (the mute works also). Directions in the manual are pretty clear on how to do these things, and Sony tech support is also helpful. All in all, very nice. If you want one remote to replace all the others you own (including all those batteries!), truly this is the remote you want.

Customer Review: Excellent Remote for $20
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this based on the high number of positive reviews, and the fact that it was a small purchase.

Within 5 minutes of opening the package, I was very happy with this product.

I have a DirecTV DVR, Samsung TV, and a Yamaha Soundbar - all were programmed with just a couple clicks on the remote.

Then I moved on to the "learning" functions - this is the best part of the product.

My DirecTV controller has a "List" button, which pulls up my DVR items, but this remote did not. However, with just a couple clicks, I programmed this to the "Tools" button on the remote, and I was done. I did this for all the functions on my DirecTV remote within 10 minutes.

Next I moved on to the Yamaha. This device has several buttons - most I don't use, but 4 that I do use a lot. The buttons are equalizers for different types of sound - music, movie, sports, and game. And this is where the real value of this remote came through - there are no buttons on any standardized controller that say "movie" or "sports" or anything of the sort. But with this controller, you can program any button to operate any function from another remote. So for my equalizers, I chose to use the numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4... easy to remember.

If you don't want to spend $75+ and don't want to have to call Geek Squad for help, this is the perfect product.

Customer Review: I LOVE this remote!
Summary: 5 Stars

It takes a lot for me to write a review, but i had to do it with this remote. We recently purchased a new Samsung HDTV, Samsung Blu Ray player and Samsung Home Theater system. Including our DVR, we now had 4 remotes! Needless to say, this was very difficult, especially when you have an 18 month old running around who loves remotes. I wanted a Harmony, but could not justify the cost, so i started shopping around online and found this one. When several people said they preferred it to Harmony, i was sold. I ordered it Monday and got it Tuesday (did the prime service trial). Anyway, there was just one glitch and that was that the codes did not work for the Blu Ray and the receiver, but it found the TV and Time Warner Magnavox DVR just fine. This only meant that it would take me a bit longer to manually program it using the "learn" function and it was SOOOO easy! I had all four remotes programmed to the new remote in probably 30-40 minutes, but most of that was just holding down the button from the old remote waiting for the new remote to find it and complete programming. Seriously, the learn function is really easy and it really does work! The only button really missing for us was there is no favorites button which we do use on our DVR remote, so I just used the Tools button instead. Anyway, I could not be happier with this remote AND with the price i paid for it! Great deal!

Customer Review: Great remote that sports pricey features
Summary: 5 Stars

My main reason for buying this remote was that I have our TV's sound routed through an old Sherwood RX-4105 2-Channel 100-Watt Stereo Receiver to a separate set of speakers and I wanted my remote to control the sound as well as the TV, satellite box/recorder, and our Phillips DVD player.
This remote does it all. It had all of my ancillary devices' codes listed in the booklet, and I was able to program them all in, including the Sherwood. (Now I can quit asking hubby for the Sherwood's sound remote.)

But WAIT--- the satellite box's DVR recording features did not work on the satellite part of the Sony remote!
Not to worry: This Sony remote has the ability to "teach" it's buttons what you want them to do! I was amazed at how easy it was to teach the recording/playback keys on this remote to work with my satellite box's recording features. Put the original remote nose-to-nose with the Sony remote, push the "set" button on the Sony, then the device button, then the button you want to teach, then push the button on the original remote and hit the "set" button a 2nd time, and you are done. It's that easy!

My husband was so impressed, he asked me if he could have one the Sony remotes too!
This remote is definitely an impressive device for the money.
